Seldom has pre-season at Hereford United seen so much rain. Another 25 mls has fallen since 8am this morning bringing this months total to around 125 mls or five inches. And more is forecast for this afternoon.
This time last year Herefordshire was having excellent weather with temperatures in the high 20's Centigrade. If anything the ground conditions were too dry for football.
The pitch at Edgar Street was relaid during May. It has grown well and hopefully will be sufficiently established to cope with the recent rains. But tomorrow will not only be a test for the players but also for the pitch to see how well it copes with the current unseasonal weather.
Meanwhile as at 11.30am, the Merton Meadow car park, which adjoins the football ground, is partly flooded. Council staff are asking those with cars parked towards the lower end to move them.
