Alan Knill has been named as the new manager of Bury.
The former Rotherham boss leaves his assistant manager job at Chesterfield to take the job at the Shakers, where he was a player for four years. He spent nearly two years in charge at Rotherham in two spells, winning 20 of 74 games, and was dismissed as they headed for League One relegation.
Caretaker boss Chris Brass had hoped for the job but he gained only one point from nine in the League, culminating in their 5-1 loss to MK Dons at the weekend. Bury are currently just two points clear of the drop zone, and without a win in 11 League matches.
