The Bulls go to Spotland on Tuesday night for the 44th meeting between the two sides.
All but two of those 44 games has been in the basement section of the Football League. The opening meetings, in the 1973/4 season, were Rochdale's last taste of anything but what is now League Two - winning just two games all season. 19 of the fixtures so far have been draws, including all three since the Bulls returned to the League.
Three of the four goals scored in those three games have been penalties, with only Theo Robinson scoring from open play in August's 1-1 draw at Edgar Street. That day Rochdale ended with ten men after former Morecambe man Dave Perkins was shown a harsh second yellow.
Rochdale have a definite home form problem. Just four wins, and thirteen goals, in their twelve home games this season contrasts sharply with nine wins and thirty goals on their travels. Ten goal top scorer Glenn Murray was sold to Brighton for £300,000 to 'balance the books', leaving eight goal Adam Le Fondre as their main goal getter. Lee Thorpe was drafted in from Brentford as Murray's replacement, but they've lost both games he's been involved in.
The Bulls will look to capitalise on the instant partnership of Gary Hooper and Sherjill Macdonald at Spotland. The pair looked comfortable from the start against Dagenham, and are expected to start again despite Theo Robinson's return from suspension. With one of the six loanees to be left out of the sixteen Robbie Threlfall, who is still short of match practice after missing two months, is expected to be the one left out.
