The high cost of fuel could help HUISA and other organisations fill their coaches to Hereford United away games this coming season.
Locally diesel has been spotted as high as 1.35p/litre this weekend putting pressure on motorists to cut back on their travelling.
With many cars averaging around 8 miles to the litre, the cost of fuel to take a trip to Peterborough, for example, from Hereford to watch the Bulls would be around £47 at present. And that's before adding any other costs such as licence, insurance, wear and tear.
When the Bulls played at London Road last season, Oct 27th, diesel was about £1.05. The cost for fuel of getting there and back was about £37. On that day HUISA charged £16 for a seat on their coach. A rise of at least £2 seems inevitable next time.
How much effect higher fuel prices will have on attendances this coming season remains to be seen. But with analysts expecting oil to raise even further some supporters will take the view that it will be too expensive to travel to more than a few away games. Others may decide that coach travel is a cheaper, if more restrictive, option.
As regards gates at Edgar Street the same arguement may apply in so much that some visiting supporters could decide that it is just too far to travel to Hereford with the current high cost of fuel.
