Graham Turner, Hereford United's Chairman and Director of Football, was the special guest recently at an exciting event showcasing services and activities for Herefordshire children and young people. The free event at the Left Bank included displays from youth groups, sport activities (including a Tai Chi taster), libraries, healthy schools, careers and health advice, to name a few. This was all to support the launch of a new plan which details the priorities that need to be tackled over the next three years for our county's youngsters.
The Children's Trust through the council, health, police, schools and other partners are working to improve outcomes for children and young people, by working in partnership. This includes healthy lifestyles, educational achievements, helping out in communities, being safe from accidents or bullying and other issues that are important to children and young people.
Graham awarded prizes to seven youngsters who had entered an art competition, to provide the graphics for the new plan. The prize winners were in four age categories with one overall winner whose work is on the front page of the plan:
The under 7's winner was Ellie Paine, and the runner up was Mary Goodwin.
Age 7-12 winner and the overall winner was Katie Francis; runner up was Meredith Ruleman Age 13-16 winner was Larissa Tasker and the runner up was Lucy Bateman And the winner of the 17+ category was Rebecca Howard.
Councillor Jenny Hyde addressed the event, highlighting the wonderful array of activities there are available for children and young people in the county and how important it is that services work together to support them. She thanked the work of the young people in the shadow board of the Children's Trust who helped to judge the art competition and have produced their own colourful version of the new plan.
