Chesterfield will, like the Bulls with Trent McClenahan, lose defender Aaron Downes until September if he is chosen for the Olyroos' Olympic bid in Bejing. Manager Lee Richardson told the local press: "It's between him and another player for the Olympics, and it would create a problem for us. It's a learning curve for me regarding Australian and international players, because it is clearly a disadvantage. It's no use to us at all but I'm sure for him, his career and Australia it's fine. It would be a problem for us as we will be without a player until September, if he is selected."
Peterboro will not be offloading any of their seven transfer listed players to Wycombe for full back Russell Martin. The 22 year old is signing a three year deal at London Road after his Chairboys contract expired but boss Peter Taylor wants a cash-only settlement and will go to a tribunal if necessary. Crewe have agreed a fee with Leeds for striker Anthony Elding, and the player is mulling over terms.
Mansfield have hit back at Stags fans who are organising a boycott of sponsorship until unpopular owner Keith Haslam sells the club. The club claim only two of the named businesses joining the boycott were sponsors last season, adding that the list might as well include BA, Virgin Atlantic, and Microsoft as being unwilling to provide sponsorship to the club. Walsall's new boss Jimmy Mullen is being paid £80,000 a year according to the local press. Chairman Jeff Bonser is denying he is the 'cheap' option.
Former Conference chief John Moules has been named as Chairman at Ebbsfleet. Setanta's payments to clubs, reported yesterday, seem to be the subject of some fluctuation. Different websites quote different fees with some sites saying the first match fees are £7,000 or more. The one thing that is confirmed is that coverage will be cut by 30 games. The pay-TV provider reports that the play-off final received a larger audience than a key Celtic-Rangers match.
Crewe will listen to offers on wanted pair Danny Woodards and Gary Roberts. Former Exeter full back Woodards and winger Roberts were both regulars last season. Cambridge have now released or sold eight of the eleven that started the Conference play-off final. Striker Lee Boylan is the latest to leave after a second bid from Stevenage was accepted. Derby want Stockport striker Liam Dickinson.
Tranmere have signed utility player Gareth Edds following his release from MK Dons. The Aussie was released last month after struggling with an ankle injury during the season. Luton's new owners are still waiting on news on the return of the club's 'golden share'. Every League club has a share that allows voting rights but the Hatters' share is currently suspended.
