Trevor Benajmin, the ex-Hereford United striker, is unlikely to join up with Chester City. It is understood that a persistent eye problem is the reason.
He had to pull out of Tuesday's friendly against Carlisle when the problem flared up just before the game.
“I spoke to Trevor on Wednesday night and at the moment he’s needing to stay back where he lives," said Chester manager Simon Davies.
“We’ll talk again this weekend to see what position he is in for next week.
“He’s been offered deals in the Conference and a deal off somebody else in this division as well. He wants to come to us, which is great. Whether we can do it, I’m not so sure.
“He was taking medication for it. Whether it ran out or he stopped taking it for some reason I don’t know, but it’s not ideal.
“He’s missing out on training games and fitness training. He won’t be doing anything for another week. At a time when he’s trying to impress, he’s missing out on that.”
