BBC Hereford and Worcester could have less competition in the Herefordshire area if a petition to wind up Laser Broadcasting next week is successful.
Laser hold nine commercial radio licences including the three 'Sunshine' stations currently broadcasting in the Herefordshire area.
The petition was brought by the Gateshead-based venture capitalist Capital North East No 1 Limited Partnership. It will be heard before a judge in the high court in Leeds on October 14.
Whilst the Sunshine stations do not cover Hereford United to the extent that BBC Hereford and Worcester do, should they fail and not be replaced it will be three less outlets for news about the football club.
Last month Sunshine was yellow carded by Ofcom after it was found to be failing to meet its local news requirements.
"We are aware of missing local bulletins and the yellow card signals a demand for reinstatement," said an Ofcom spokesperson.
The 'Sunshine' stations are:
Sunshine 106.2 FM (radio) Herefordshire & Monmouthshire
Sunshine Radio 855 (radio) South Shropshire, North Herefordshire, North Worcestershire, England/Wales Borders
Sunshine Radio 954 (radio) Herefordshire
Sunshine Radio 1530 (radio) Worcestershire
