Preview: Brighton vs Bulls

The Bulls travel to the Withdean Stadium for the first time defending a four match unbeaten run against the Seagulls.

You have to go back to December 1975 for the last time the Bulls lost when, at the old Goldstone Ground, they were on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline. More recently Neil Grayson scored twice as the freshly relegated Bulls upended the Seagulls in the FA Cup, while a year previous an Adrian Foster goal seperated the two sides as Brighton fans paid more attention to ousting their unpopular board rather than the game.

After relegation from the Championship in 2006 Brighton have flitted with both relegation and promotion since. Missing out on the play-offs by seven points, after they missed relegation by the same margin the season before, surprisingly cost Dean Wilkins his job as manager. Micky Adams returned to the club leading to high expectations, but the continued losses from the long awaited Falmer stadium project have stifled his budget and their indifferent start to the season sees them yet to win at home from five League matches.

The frank depiction given by Graham Turner of his frame of mind after the Oldham game echoed what the fans were thinking. With Stephen O'Leary's frustration costing him a one match ban most fans are expecting several changes above that enforced one and Tuesday's reserve draw would have given several of those outside the XI at Oldham to stake their claims. No doubt Monday's training would have been slightly delayed to allow Bradley Hudson-Odoi to buy new boots - several pairs this time.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Hereford United, Withdean Stadium, Saturday 18th October, 3.00pm.
