The Bulls entertain Tranmere Rovers at Edgar Street in a Boxing Day League One match.
The two sides last met in League action nearly 20 years ago but it is only 11 months since the pair were matched in the Third Round of the FA Cup, with Ben Smith and Trevor Benjamin earning the Bulls a 2-2 draw at Prenton Park before Simon Johnson's solitary strike progressed the Bulls into the Fourth Round.
The Bulls will be encouraged by Saturday's performance, if not the result. Finishing remains a problem but at least the chances are being created and the goals should surely follow. With only two games to go before the January transfer window it will be the final chances for a number of players to prove their worth to have loans extended or be offered new contracts, while Craig Samson will have another opportunity to stake his claim to be the no.1 for the remainder of the season.
Tranmere's play-off challenge is largely down to their good home form. On the road however they have managed just one goal in seven games, and that in a JPT loss to a reserve Scunthorpe side, with three of the games being goalless draws. Former Bulls loanee Steve Jennings remains an integral part of the side, although he has tested his manager's patience with two suspensions already this season. Top League scorer is Bas Savage with five goals, but he hasn't scored away from Prenton Park since the opening day of the season.
Hereford United vs Tranmere Rovers, Edgar Street, Friday 26th December, 3.00pm.
