Turner agreed with decision to postpone game

Graham Turner, the Hereford United manager, agreed with the decision to call off this afternoon's game at Scunthorpe. At a press conference both the referee, Graham Laws, and Jamie Hammond from Scunthorpe gave their reaction to the postponement.

"The club have done an awful lot," said Laws.

"They've had covers on the pitch for the vast majority of the week but the temperatures have plummeted today.

"There's a small bit of the pitch which is frozen solid and I've looked at the weather forecast, it's minus one at the time of speaking, and the temperatures have been forecast to drop even further.

"It's quite an easy decision to make in the end because it would be unsafe for the players if we tried to play today.

"There's nothing that the club could have done further. They've spent a considerable amount of money on covers.

"I'm aware that the away team had a look at the pitch this morning and felt that it was playable.

"Both clubs have said it was fine this morning but, unfortunately, the temperatures have dropped during the day causing the pitch to freeze up. There's nothing that either club could have done."

Iron's general manager Jamie Hammond has also commented on the postponement.

"We did everything we could to get this game on. When we came in this morning the groundstaff lifted the covers and it all looked in order.

"Hereford arrived earlier this morning and felt the same thing.

"A small part of the pitch became frozen and that concerned the referee. At the time of speaking, the temperature is minus two and he was concerned that during the game there might be a risk of cancelling it halfway through because it would become that cold."

He added that both managers - Nigel Adkins and Graham Turner - agreed with the decision.
