Cheltenham Town's assistant manager John Brough has been speaking about his four years at Edgar Street from 1994 to 1998. Amidst his goals was one against Tottenham Hotspur in an FA Cup third round tie in 1995/96 but there were difficult times as well.
"We had to go six weeks without pay at one point and we were not sure where our next wage packet was coming from," Brough told the Gloucestershire press.
"Players were struggling to pay their mortgages and I remember after one home game being given an envelope with £100 from the turnstiles in it, made up of small change."
And there was the relegation to the Conference.
"Unfortunately I was part of the side that was relegated, but the way Graham (Turner) has turned things around has been marvellous," he said.
"He became chairman as well as manager and what he's done, taking the club back up 10years after the relegation and getting them into League One, making a profit, is a marvellous job and I have the utmost respect for him.
"I have some good memories of my time at Hereford, but those days are over and all I will be focusing on this weekend is trying to get three points.
"I was at the away match earlier in the season, when we lost 3-0 and it was one of those days.
"We didn't perform in the first half and found ourselves 3-0 down shortly after half-time.
"We had plenty of chances after that, but the game was out of reach and they had Matt Murray in goal, who was in fine form.
"We are at home now and they don't have Matt Murray, so we will be trying to put things right."
