Cheltenham will have to rely on the generosity of fans to make further signings this season.
Chairman Paul Baker has confirmed to the local press that every penny of the club's budget is gone: "Our wage budget is fully committed, but we have a decent level of promise for one-off donations should an emergency loan situation arise. It depends on the player's wages and what we can negotiate in terms of help from the parent club."
The Robins appealed to supporters in January: "People may say it's desperate appealing to fans, but it's happened before. Many clubs are in the same financial position as we are and these are hard times for everyone."
Loan striker Andy Smith came in after a similar appeal in 2006, but soon departed goalless after refusing to warm the bench in an FA Cup match: "That turned out to be a disaster, but we are confident Martin will be able to find a player who can go straight into the starting line-up and make a difference."
