A robbery took place at Stockport County's Edgeley Park yesterday morning. Most of the takings from the game against Hereford last Saturday and from the rugby match the previous evening were reported to have been taken.
The robbery took place at 8.50am when three masked men charged into the ticket office and forced staff to empty the safe.
"There are often lots of strong feelings about people’s loyalty to rugby or football, but this damages both clubs. Although thankfully no-one was injured, the staff were traumatised and I would encourage anyone who has any loyalty to County and knows something to come forward," said Mark Maquire as reported by the Stockport Express.
Police confirmed the robbers netted a five figure sum.
"There was an unacceptable level of violence used against totally innocent people who were about to begin a day’s work. Those responsible should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. A significant amount of money was stolen. It is very unusual for football or rugby clubs to be targeted by attacks of this nature," said Det Insp Kevin Dolan, from Stockport CID.
