League 2 Pre-season game round-up

On Friday night, Bury took on an Everton XI and scraped a 2-1 win. Wayne Brown featured for part of the game as did ex-Bull Simon Johnson. Johnson is reported to have shown enough to warrant another run but was said to look short of fitness.

Darlington player-coach Dean Windass bagged a brace as the Quakers cruised to a 3-0 win at Northern League side Billingham Town

Today, newly promoted Burton Albion lost 1-0 to a strong Derby County team managed by former Brewers boss Nigel Clough. New signing from Kiddy Harriers, Russ Penn, played the second period. Port Vale lost to the only goal of the game at Biddulph Victoria and travel to Telford on Tuesday.

Macclesfield Town were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at Corby while Bradford City came from behind to record at 2-1 home win over Premiership new boys Burnley.

On the south coast, Southampton's new era began with a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth with former Bull Sammy Igoe netting the winner. Karl Broadhurst played the second half for The Cherries. Barnet ran out 2-1 winners at Dover while Aldershot were on the end of a 4-0 pasting from QPR. At Weston-S-Mare, veteran Julian Alsop rescued a poor Cheltenham side with a late winner against the lowly Conference South side who finished sixth from bottom last term.

Northampton got their pre-season off to a decent start with Steve Guinan netting the only goal on 61 minutes at Brackley

Finally another former Bull Josh Gowling found the back of the net in just three minutes for Carlisle in their friendly against Workington.
