Pegasus Juniors 0-3 Hereford United

Hereford United started their pre-season with a 3-0 victory at Pegasus Juniors this evening at Old School Lane. John Trewick gave a total of 21 players games, with a number of trialists in show. There were a few absentees from the squad though with Glen Southam, Matty Done and Leon Constantine not featuring. Trialists on the night were Danny Thomas, Sam Williams, Lee Morris, Jake Reid, Kyle Letheren, Marc Manga and Liam Hughes. Kenny Lunt and Keith Lowe took the captain's armband in either half.

The first-half started with Hereford pressing but failing to create too many opportunties although Ryan Green went close on two occasions after linking up with Manga on the right-hand side. Pegasus nearly took the lead when their number 8 burst into the box and an instinctive effort looped over 'keeper Adam Bartlett but rebounded off the woodwork. Soon after, Hereford took the lead when Sam Gwynne played a forward pass to Lee Morris who turned his man before sliding the ball into the net with his left-foot.

United started the second-half quickly with Craig Jones forcing a fine reflex save from the home 'keeper with a rasping left-foot volley. Soon after that chance, Hereford made it two with Gwynne adding a goal to his assist. A cross from the left wasn't dealt with and Gwynne, the only player to remain on the pitch from the first period, tapped in. A burst out of defence by Darren Dennehy led to the third and final goal of the evening with a sideways pass being hit first-time by Jamie Tolley which, via a deflection, flew over the head of the substitute Peggy 'keeper. Gwynne was replaced by Manga for the second part of the second-half whilst Joel Edwards was also recalled after C. Jones picked up a knock challenging the 'keeper. Towards the end of the game an encouraging burst from Manga saw him run into the box and drill a shot inches past the far post.

Pegasus put up a good performance against United and gave 100% throughout the game, making it difficult for their higher graded opponents. Out of the new signings, Green looked lively at right-back whilst in the second-half, Dennehy and Lowe worked well together at the back. The right-midfielder looked nippy and quick whilst Morris showed some neat touches and good awareness. Youngsters Edwards and Tyler Weir also looked decent especially when in possession of the ball. Around 300 were in attendance for the game, allowing fans to run the rule over Trewick's summer activity so far. Next up for Hereford is the visit of Bristol City on Monday night.
