Preview: Aldershot vs Bulls

The Bulls travel to Hampshire tomorrow for a League Two match at Aldershot.

It will be the first meeting for the two sides in the Football League since the original Aldershot Town folded in 1992. The two sides met in three Conference seasons, with the Bulls winning all six league games, and drawing the two play off matches, before losing on penalties and 'that' decision by Mr Woolmer. Apart from that, the best remembered game is probably the first Conference meeting, on Bank Holiday Monday in August 2003, when an injury time winner from David Brown secured a 4-3 Bulls win after they were 2-0 down inside ten minutes.

The Shots will be looking to maintain a 100% home record after recording a pair of 3-1 wins over Accrington and Darlington at the Rec already this season. Midfielder Scott Donnelly has scored four times in the last two games, but star asset is striker Marvin Morgan. The former Woking man was subject to a bid from Swindon earlier in the week but remains a Shots player after three goals so far this season. Ex-Bull John Grant is yet to start a game after a disappointing season that earned him just six goals last term. The game will have a minutes silence in memory of former Shots chairman John McGinty, with the stadium hosting a memorial service after the match.

The Bulls will go to the Rec wondering why Edgar Street is treated so harshly when grounds like this are allowable in the League. Jonny Godsmark will miss the trip with his broken hand, leaving John Trewick with a dilemma on who to put on the right hand side. Marlon Jackson's first start in the JPT may lead to a first League start, or fellow Bristol City man Tristan Plummer may be put back out wide to allow a return for Leon Constantine.

Aldershot Town vs Hereford United, Recreation Ground, Saturday 5th September, 3.00pm.
