McQuilkin unlikely to join Stags

Bull's fringe player James McQuilkin was reported to have played for Mansfield in a match against a Notts County XI last Tuesday in an attempt to secure himself some regular first team football.

The Stags are to be without the midfield services of former Bradford player Kyle Nix who is to undergo surgery on a damaged ankle. Manager David Holdsworth is looking to provide cover during his absence.

Another friendly, this time against a Chesterfield XI, has been arranged for this week but McQuilkin looks set to miss out with the "This is Nottingham" site reporting…

"Trialist Anthony Peters will also take the field but Holdsworth is not pursuing his initial interest in Kevin Thornton and James McQuilkin."

Meanwhile ex-Bull Darren Randolph has been told he can leave Charlton in January if he fails to break into the first XI in the next two months. It is a year since he ejected toys from his pram on the news that Matt Murray was to replace him at Edgar Street, and he has played just one League match for Charlton since when conceding four against Sheff Weds.

In other news, BBC Hereford and Worcester are reporting that striker Craig King has been told by parent club Leicester City that he is free to play for The Bulls in Saturday’s FA Cup match against Sutton United.
