The Bulls entertain Sutton United in the First Round of the FA Cup on Saturday at Edgar Street.
The two sides have met twice in the FA Cup in recent times. In 1992/3 the Bulls won 2-1 at Sutton's Gander Green Lane ground, while in 1995/6 - Graham Turner's first season in charge - the Bulls won 2-0 at Edgar Street to set up a Third Round tie with Spurs. Inbetween those two games Sutton reached the Third Round for the fourth and last time, losing at Notts County 3-2 after despatching Colchester and Torquay in the first two rounds.
With cash at a premium all around football, a lot of clubs will be looking at the FA Cup as a financial saviour. The Bulls won't have the same worries as other sides, but the £18,000 prize money will come in handy. Graham Turner predicted a 25% drop in income this season, but gates are already 27% down and the average is still falling. The Bulls will have some local knowledge to tap up for the lowdown on Sutton. Gavin McCallum scored 19 times in 51 games for the club over the past two season before joining the Bulls.
Sutton will take a three figure support to Edgar Street on Saturday after filling up two supporters coaches, more than a few League sides have managed. The Ryman League Premier side currently lie 7th in the table, a point shy of former Conference foes Canvey Island and the play-off spots, winning four of their six away games so far this season. Names to note in their team include Kevin Scriven, Havant's keeper for their match at Liverpool in 2008, former Stevenage defender Jason Goodliffe, and Stefan Payne, an 18 year old striker who Fulham have loaned back to Sutton after buying him earlier in the season in a deal that could net the club £250,000.
Hereford United vs Sutton United, Edgar Street, Saturday 7th November, 3.00pm.
