A takeover of Notts County has collapsed, after current owner Peter Trembling refused to put pen to paper and complete the deal.
A Midlands based consortium, featuring club sponsors Octavian Security, was all set to inject the £2million needed into the club to cover it's immediate debts, but Trembling declined to sign the final agreement and told the Derby Telegraph:
"We did meet with them but we have not been able to agree on a deal. They are well-established business people and it will be my pleasure to work with them at some time in the future. In the meantime, we are carrying on in our search for investment."
Octavian owner Sukhi Ghuman told the paper: "We were ready to sign on Saturday, we were ready to sign on Sunday. We agreed to sign on Monday and then Tuesday. We agreed to set a final deadline of today at 10am. And, this morning, we were told that he was not ready to sign."
The deal appears to have been the genuine investment offered to the High Court to earn a stay of execution on their tax debts last month, and the club will now need to seek further new investment to satisfy the demand.
Meanwhile Accrington have avoided their latest day in court by paying up the outstanding £78,000 to the taxman with hours to spare. A club spokesman told the press the club were now "the most up to date we have ever been in the history of the club in paying our tax."
