News Round Up

Around 200 Southend fans protested against chairman Ron Martin after yesterday's goalless draw with Exeter. In the High Court during their winding up meeting with the taxman they were only saved from bankruptcy by the impending development of the new ground, with the court Registrar doubting the club's ability to pay up without it. The taxman called the club 'plainly insolvent' after the club saw an increase in their total tax debt since their last court date.

Stockport's bidder Jim Melrose is due to give a statement later today about the ongoing impasse in his bid. It was again rejected by the Football League during the week after nine months of negotiations. Further interested parties were at yesterday's goalless draw with Gillingham including a trio of Thai businessmen. Burton still hope to resurrect the deal to bring ex-Chester man Shaun Kelly to the club, but registration issues still prevent him joining.

Ex-Bull Matt Clarke has dismissed fears his Halesowen side will be relegated as their ground is unfit to stay in the Zamaretto League. With the club still in Administration, the supporters trust is heading up efforts to get the ground up to scratch before the March 31st deadline. Tamworth's new signing, ex-Nottm Forest defender Aaron Mitchell, is playing for free as the club cannot afford to pay him. He hopes to earn a deal by putting himself in the shop window.

Shrewsbury top scorer Dave Hibbert has been ruled out for up to a month with a groin problem. The 14 goal forward missed yesterday's loss to Rochdale. Their second top scorer, Steve Leslie, has six.
