Bournemouth assistant manager Jason Tindall told the press that the 2-1 win over Hereford United was critical.
"At this stage of the season the result is crucial and nothing else matters," said Tindall.
"Against Lincoln at the weekend we played well and got nothing but this was not such a great performance and we won.
"Hereford had nothing much to play for so they were relaxed and made it difficult for us so we had to be professional in all we did. Pitman's second goal was down to sheer hard work and it gave us some confidence.
"Hereford's late goal took the gloss off our performance but the players have done unbelievably well this season and we have got everything we deserved so far. We have had all kinds of problems on and off the pitch but the players have stuck together and now we are not far off going up, although there is a lot of work still to be done."
Meanwhile a talking point amidst Hereford United spectators last night at Dean Close was just how well the Cherries appeared to be coping with their financial situation.
Having to endure a transfer embargo has left manager Eddie Howe with, on occasions, just about enough fit players to start a game let alone fill the bench.
The club do not own the ground and adjoining large car parks. They sold out to a developer some time ago.
