Five Arrests To Date

BBC Radio Shorpshire has reported that five so-called supporters have been arrested so far after trouble at last night's Shrewsbury Town/Hereford United game.

They say that about 25 police officers went to the ground to deal with the trouble.

Several police officers and stewards received minor injuries.

Five people from the Shrewsbury and Hereford areas were arrested for various offences including assult on police and club stewards.

Video footage is being studied to identify others in the disorder.

Meanwhile Chief Inspector Martin Whitelegg has spoken about the trouble at the ground.

"Prior to the fixture, we were not requested by the club to provide policing at the ground as they have their own stewards. However, we did have a small number of officers on duty to deal with any ancillary disorder in the town.

"But due to significant disorder breaking out in the ground during the match which the stewards were unable to manage on their own, the club's safety officer requested assistance from the police and we attended to restore order."
