Gareth Bale related to former Bull

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale, who gave another terrific performance last night against Inter Milan, is related to a former Hereford United player according to Mirror Sport.

Gareth Frank Bale was born in Cardiff on July 16, 1989. He almost certainly had football ability in his DNA - uncle Chris Pike was a journeyman pro who made over 300 appearances for clubs including Fulham, Gillingham, Cardiff, Hereford United and, er, the mighty Rhayader Town.

Pike scored 18 League goals for the Bulls in the 1993/94 season. He is especially remembered for scoring a hat-trick against Colchester United, in which each of the three goals was scored past a different goalkeeper, one of only five such hat-tricks ever scored in the Football League.

Which is something Bale is yet to achieve.

Meanwhile Pike has spoken to BBC Wales about Bale.

"I've known him for 21 years and I know exactly how grounded he is.

"He just loves playing football - he's not motivated by money, he's not motivated by fame, he's just motivated by football and he loves it."
