Pitman looks ahead

In a long interview with the Football League website, Hereford United care-taker manager Jamie Pitman looks forward to this evening's game with Aldershot and also reflects about his future.

"When I was at the club as a player Edgar Street was a hard place for teams to come, and we've got to make it the same again," said Pitman.

"The sooner we can get that first home win the better, and if we can do that against a good side like Aldershot it will boost confidence as well as our points tally.

"I had aspirations in physiotherapy, but when the chance to manage the club came along I couldn't turn it down.

"I had little management experience, but I had good knowledge of the game having been a player at a decent level for a long time and then having valuable time on the management side with Jim at Forest Green and helping Graham out at the back end of last season, when we had a good run-in to keep ourselves in The League.

"Before the start of this season I was telling people that we would be a decent side, but for whatever reason we lost our way a bit. Now we've picked up and things have been going really well, but I know that situation can change very quickly so it's that old cliché, 'one game at a time,' that I'll be sticking to.

"Whether I get the job on a permanent basis remains to be seen, it will be a case of whatever's best for the football club. I was here as a player when we got relegated from The League and I was here again when we got promoted back - and my only concern now is for Hereford United to prosper as a Football League club."
