Youth Team lose at Coventry

Hereford United are out of the FA Youth Cup. They were defeated by Coventry Sphink 2-1 earlier this evening.

Here's a short report compiled from the Coventry-mad site.

In the sixth minute, Josh Hunt had a glorious chance for Hereford when he was left in space on the right hand side of the area but having beaten Tom Bryce, he fired across the face of the goal and out for a goal-kick.

Back came Sphinx and Chris O'Shea drew a great reaction save from visiting keeper Matthew Gwynne to concede a corner.

Sphinx kept up the pressure and in the 19th minute, they were ahead thanks to the persistence of Joe Cadden who worked hard to get in a shot which Gwynne could not handle. ADAM BILIC was first to the loose ball and he was able to round the keeper and fire into an empty net, delighting the Sphinx support.

On the half hour mark, Josh Hunt missed another good chance for Gary Steven's side when he headed from five yards following some good approach play by Zac Brimble and Jack Biggs.

Hereford had the early play in the second half but could not find anyway of getting past the Sphinx defence until eight minutes from time, when the ball came out to DEAN LEE on the left hand side of the area and he sent a powerful drive into the net to draw Hereford level.

CHRIS O'SHEA fired over after being clean through but with seconds of normal time remaining, he was on hand to steer an Adam Robertson cross from the right into the net from close range and record an historic victory for Coventry Sphinx.

Hereford United: Gwynne, Lemar, McCarthy, Loughman, Thomas, Hackett, Lee, Brimble, Biggs Hunt, Marsh Subs: Croose, Marks, Savage, Towelty, Brooke.
