Stuart Fleetwood, who scored Hereford's only goal of the game after just nine minutes, felt that the Bulls could be proud of their performace at Hillsborough for the first sixty minutes of the game.
"Great start, getting the first goal," Fleetwood told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"But we were disappointed to lose by so many goals.
"Their second one was probably a penalty. Heath was the last man, right to get sent off.
"With ten men they caught us on the break for the third goal as well.
"I think the fourth was really harsh. Townend just slipped and it hit him on the arm, but the game was over by 3-1.
Fleetwood was asked by Keith Hall about the penalty decisions.
"Heath was pretty sure that the lad had already fallen over by the time he made contact. The referee was closer and he didn't give it, the linesman gave it which is going to be a talking point.
"But any time a striker gets in front of you and goes down - it puts it in the referees mind he's going to give it.
"Heath was disappointed with it but from where I was it looked like a penalty.
"I think the second one was really harsh. It's meant to be intentional hand-ball but there's no way Townsend can hand-ball it when he's on the floor.
"We're disappointed but when it was 3-1 it was all over.
"Their third goal was from our corner. Great throw out from Nicky Weaver and Johnson went past a couple of players.
"By that time with ten men we were trying to chase the game and they caught us on the break.
"They are a great side and we can hold our heads up high.
"It was great to get this far and come to Hillsborough and play as well as we did for the first sixty minutes."
