Council Envisage "Sporting Revolution"

The following is a press release published today on the Herefordshire Council website:

A deal which will guarantee the home of Hereford United, help breathe new life into its Edgar Street ground and produce exciting new commercial and community opportunities for the city is being planned.

After months of talks behind the scenes, United Chairman David Keyte and Vice-Chairman Tim Russon, along with Hereford Futures Chief Executive Jonathan Bretherton, are hoping to broker a deal which could well pave the way for a sporting revolution.

Under the plan United will get a new long term lease and be given the go ahead to develop Edgar Street which would help create investment, jobs and at the same time give the local community state-of-the-art facilities.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Hereford. The club gets security and the city centre another piece in the jigsaw which will help boost the local economy,” said Jonathan Bretherton.

United Chairman David Keyte commented: ”Our target is to give the fans a ground to be proud of with a new Blackfriars Stand and matchday facilities, which will earn much needed income for the club. At the same time we want to provide an arena which the rest of the community can use and benefit from.”

A hotel and conference centre is one of the ideas being proposed for the Blackfriars End of the ground with the club and the Herefordshire Council working together to produce a plan, which will benefit local business and local people.
