Pitman praises Townsend

Hereford United defender Michael Townsend started his first game for several weeks this afternoon and an assured performance won him praise from manager Jamie Pitman.

"Townsend got man of the match, deservedly so," Pitman told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"He won a lot of good headers, made very good decisions, kept the game very simple along with Ryan Green.

"The way the crown responded to Michael was fantastic. You could see him growing in confidence with it."

Strikers Delroy Facey and Nathan Elder warming up

Pitman also spoke about striker Nathan Elder who ran his socks off this afternoon.

"It was a big game for him today with the history between him and the other centre-half.

"It was a game he had to show great emotional control today.

"He's worked his socks off and add to that Del's come on and done exactly the same.

"It was great to see that as well. Won some vital headers when he came on."

Finally a few words about winger Tom Barkhuizen.

"Tom is going to get better and better with every game.

"He's still very young, still got a lot to learn.

"As long as he can continue to show the quality and enjoyment he does when he plays he's going to have a good career ahead of him"
