Those were the words of Darlington's Administrator after a later than last-minute deal to save the club was agreed.
At Noon he was telling the players the club was finished. Half an hour later, with the official announcement set to roll, two members of the DFC Rescue Group screeched into the car park and were banging on the locked doors of the stadium with £50,000 to keep the club running.
Tense negotiations proceeded over the next two hours, with the Administrator consulting lawyers as to what he could legally do, before an agreement was reached. The Supporters Trust chipped in another £10,000, and an as-yet anonymous foreign source has offered another £150,000.
As it stands, the club will live for three more games starting with Saturday's home match with Fleetwood Town. They will have nine senior players, a string of youth players, and possibly even their 40 year old manager Craig Liddle coming out of retirement. They will also have, so far, 52 stewards working for nothing to get the game on.
Steve Weeks, of the Rescue Group, told the Northern Echo: "The group have come with a sum of money that the administrator accepted to enable the club to continue until January 31 which gives the Rescue Group the chance to carry out due diligence with appropriate care required for the emergence of a community-based club. Fans have to realise this is just the beginning and we now need their support more than ever. If this town really wants a football club, now is the time to show how much they care."
If the people of Darlington want their club they have one last chance to show it.
