Hereford United manager Richard O'Kelly, pictured with the players after the game, was very pleased with the performance on the field this afternoon despite going down 1-0.
"Today was an excellent performance, the best since I've been here" O'Kelly told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"Crewe could hold their own in the first division. They've got some great quality players.
"I'm immensely proud of how the players performed today and it's just that little bit of luck that makes the difference.
"Probably the only downside of the game was the last five minutes when a few balls went in their box and we didn't react to it.
"Overall you would take that performance every day of the week."
O'Kelly made a couple of chances to the team this afternoon.
"The players who has come in, James McQuilken and Richard Peniket, has done themselves no harm at all.
"McQuilken is technically very good and understands the game
"The players that didn't start will be in the frame for next week."
Sam Clucas had to come off during the first half.
"Twisted ankle, pity really because Sam had started really well.
"We'll know more on Monday morning."
