Ex-Bull Wedderburn Expects Cobblers Win

Former Bulls loanee Nathaniel Wedderburn expects his Northampton side to beat the Bulls this weekend.

The former Stoke trainee made three starts for the Bulls in early 2010 before signing a two year deal at Sixfields. A string of injuries has blighted his season meaning his start on Tuesday against Crawley was his first in nearly 13 months, and he is one of a number of players still to prove to boss Aidy Boothroyd he is worth a new contract.

He told the Northampton Chronicle: “I didn’t think I’d play for the club again, so it was a happy day for me again to be involved. I’ve had a bit of bad luck this season with injuries and stuff but to be back involved was great, because it has been a long time. It’s my first first-team game for more than a year now, so obviously I found it difficult towards the end."

Wedderburn expects the Cobblers to banish their relegation worries this weekend:

“I think we just need to cut out the silly mistakes, because the goals we conceded at Crawley were poor to be fair. Our attacking play, if we can play like that at the weekend, I’m sure we will get enough goals to win the game. I think our performance in the second half shows we are capable of going anywhere and winning.

“We have got a good group of lads here that will never give up, and you could see the fighting spirit in the second half. We really put a team who are third in the league under pressure. We’ll get back in training throughout the week, plan the game plan and I’m sure we will get a good result.”
