Exeter manager Paul Tisdale believes the Grecians' impending relegation to League Two is inevitable.
He claims the club was always going to struggle to keep it's League One status and, if relegation doesn't happen this season, it will happen eventually due to the limited finances of the club. He told the Western Morning News:
"The writing has been on the wall for a good year now. I'm not resigned to relegation but, if we don't go down this year, we will next year, or the year after.
"One team cycle ended last year, when five or six of that team moved on elsewhere, and we have been preparing to rebuild that team. That involves going back to a place where you are economically sound and level.
"We cannot sustain ourselves in League One. Once you go into League One, you are economically disadvantaged, it would be unrealistic to expect anything else.
"We are a solid, Trust-owned club and that's the way it is. We are not embarrassed about it. We are very proud of our club, but £24 per year per person [the Trust subscription] is not a lot of money.
"We will build another team. It took me three years to get to League One last time, can we do it in three years again? That's the challenge.
"We make a lot of sensible decisions, and day-by-day we will build again and we'll get another chance of creeping up into League One."
The Grecians have handed professional deals to six of their youngsters with several of the club's more experienced players likely to move on in the summer.
