Terry Paine Named As Honorary Southampton President

Former Hereford United player Terry Paine has been named as Southampton's Honorary President.

Paine,  who made a record 815 appearances for the Saints between 1957 and 1974, will act as an ambassador both at home and abroad.

Paine was 35 when he moved from the Dell to Edgar Street to become player-coach for Hereford United.

He stayed for three years by which time he had played 823 League games and another 95 in other competitions.

It was towards the end of his time with Hereford that, in 1977, Paine was awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours list in recognition of his service to the game of football..
