Mariners Deny A Lack Of Ambition

Tomorrow's opponents Grimsby have denied they have a lack of ambition.

The claim was levelled at them by former loanee Scott Neilson, who signed for Luton rather than the Mariners, who told the Luton press: "I spoke to Luton and I spoke to Grimsby, and I just think Luton were more serious, they want it more to go up. Grimsby don't seem like they are going to make it happen there."

Grimsby joint boss Rob Scott told their local press: "I'm not bothered about Scott's comments.

"He'll say what he wants to say, and, to some extent, he's got to say that to some degree or otherwise the Luton fans are going to be on him. He's not going to say, 'yeah I was going to go to Grimsby but Luton's nearer' is he?
"We know that he enjoyed his time here and we re-ignited his career here. But we're not that interested about what he has to say now. To be honest, we don't really care what anyone has to say about us.
"I'm only interested in what our players do and what me, Paul and the rest of the squad have to say – what anybody else has to say is irrelevant."

The Mariners' January transfer dealings are yet to start, with moves for loanees Neilson, Ross Hannah, and Nathan Pond all hitting various stumbling blocks. On Hannah, Scott told the press he would not 'break the bank' to sign him with other clubs now interested in the 26 year old.

Striker Michael Rankine also rejected a further months loan at Blundell Park as he wanted something more long term, while Anthony Elding's permanent move to Preston is being slowed down by the League One side.
