News Round-Up


Newport manager Justin Edinburgh is targeting two strikers from the same Conference club, the local press are reporting. The unnamed targets would be additional to current loanee Michael Smith, with Edinburgh still in negotiations with parent club Charlton. The Exiles boss is also targeting an experienced central defender that is currently attached to a side, with the intention of playing five across the back away from home.

Stockport boss Jim Gannon says there is a "crisis of confidence" at the club and that he expected a difficult season with their finances as they are. He says he has spoken to club chairman Lord Peter Snape about his recent press comments and asked for some public reassurance but was not given it. Plymouth have put coaches Romain Larrieu and Kevin Nancekivell in temporary charge after sacking Carl Fletcher yesterday after one win in 15 games. Recently sacked former Rochdale boss Keith Hill is the bookies favourite to take over.

Former Bulls loanee Matt Lund has left Bristol Rovers at the expiry of his six month loan from Stoke. He spent most of 2012 with the Pirates over two seperate spells, making 33 appearances in total, and is open to a return once he has discussed his future with the Premier League side. Nuneaton have signed Coventry defender Jordan Willis on loan. The England u18 central defender, who will stay for an initial month, has made five first team appearances for the Sky Blues.

A defender, central midfielder, and a winger are on Telford boss Andy Sinton's January shopping list. The Bucks, ten games without a win, will see winger Jon Brown leave for a coaching job in Thailand this week, while midfielder Richard Davies is expected to miss three months with an ankle injury. Lincoln have signed midfielder Jake Thomson on loan from Newport for an initial month. The 23 year old made 16 appearances for the Exiles after joining from Forest Green in the summer, but hasn't started a game in the last two months.

Kidderminster striker Jamille Matt has signed an 18 month extension to his Aggborough contract. Harriers chairman Mark Serrell told the press that the extension didn't mean he would necessarily remain with the club. Southend have had a planning application for their new stadium deferred by the council planning committee with issues still to be resolved. The much delayed stadium's plans is also endangered by a local college threatening to pull out of a land deal.

Wrexham say that former loan defender Danny Devine is unlikely to return to the club after interest from bigger clubs. The Irishman was released by Fleetwood following the end of his loan spell, but the Dragons have been unable to match other offers.
