The Big Bike Ride to Telford

Some months ago, a plan was hatched to get supporters on their bikes to the last away game of Hereford United's season which is at Telford on April 20th.

Rob Edwards, well known for his love of two-wheeled transport, is one of those hoping to make the trip.

"I've been toying with the idea of doing a longish bike ride for charity for a couple of years now, I used to do it a lot as a teenager, and did a few short rides last summer on a mountain bike," Rob told BN.

"I did suggest a Telford to Hereford bike ride when Hereford United's troubles back in the Autumn first got aired, but thought nothing more of it.

"Whether this had any bearing on the idea of doing the reverse route on the last day of the season, I don't know, but I jumped at the chance to be able to raise a bit of money for HUFC for something I enjoy doing.

"After the grand job the Malvern walkers did, hats off to them, I'd rather cycle 100 miles than walk 20, I'm hoping we can match what they did. I've already cycled over 400 miles since Feb 1st. I bought my first racer/road bike back in the mid to late 1980's.

"There are 36 people doing the ride on April 20th in 3 different groups depending on speed/ability, raising money for HUFC and the Hereford United Care in the Community Disability programme. My brother Greg is also doing the ride.

"To sponsor me, via paypal the email address is hufc@redwards.wanadoo.co.uk, and I will be in Addisons after the Gateshead match a week Saturday (April 13th) for anyone wanting to donate in cash."
