Desparate Need For More Season Ticket Sales

Despite yesterday's news that Hereford United's current VAT bill has been paid and the PAYE should be settled on Friday as long as a few more season tickets have been sold, the financial situation at Edgar Street remains grim.

Supporters were recently told by chairman David Keyte that some £135,000 was required to settle the PAYE, the VAT and the outstanding player's wages.

Last night BN reported that season ticket sales had reached 350. Earlier Keyte had said that the club needed to sell another 45 tickets by Friday to pay the PAYE.

Therefore it appears that around 390 season ticket sales are equivalent to the PAYE and NI bills. Assuming that the cost of an average season ticket is around £200, then that suggests some £78,000 will have been raised by selling 390 tickets.

With Keyte saying the total required was £135,000, then it looks as though the players and staff are owed about £57,000, or around £2,000 each.

However with four players having been fully paid the amount owed may be somewhat more for some players who are on Football League contracts and therefore higher earners.

If the £57,000 figure is correct then the club will need to sell another 285 season tickets, over and above the 390, to meet the outstanding wage bill.

Update 10am: Club reports sales of 367 season tickets to date.
