Cambridge boss Richard Money, given the 'curse' of the Manager of the Month award ahead of their game with the Bulls on Saturday, says the prize is for the whole club.
He told the Cambridge News that the award should be seen a little differently: “I suppose the award is no surprise given the record, but what I want to say on that is I think it’s an inappropriate title because, in my opinion, this is the club of the month, never mind the team of the month.
“Commercially and from a sponsorship point of view, the group of people doing that job have been working incredibly hard to make sure we’re in a much better place that we were this time last year.
“The pitch and the stadium are fantastic and the people in the office are working very hard to keep the administration on the right lines. The team are performing on the pitch and the staff are working tirelessly to help keep that going.
“On top of that, the supporters are coming. Our crowds at the end of last season were 1,800 and in our last game we got 3,700. Our average crowd last season was under 1,800, but now it’s over 3,000 and the atmosphere has been fantastic, so everyone can take a great deal of credit for the way things are going.
“This award is just for the bit that people see has performed. But all the bits that people don’t see have performed equally as well to give us the opportunity to be where we are.”
Money's side face the Bulls unbeaten this season, and having set a club record of six successive clean sheets before Welling became the only side this season to score twice against the U's.
