Richard O'Kelly has been telling the Doncaster press of the day he broke his leg at Belle Vue. It happened when the former Hereford United coach was playing for Grimsby. In the same game Donny keeper Paul Malcolm sustained a similar injury.
"I was in plaster for ten months after the break and never played another league game," said O'Kelly.
"But there was some humour in it all.
"I remember that the first aid people were treating someone in the crowd when Paul broke his leg and I'm sure they tipped someone off the stretcher to lift Paul on!
"Then I got caught later in the game and ended up in Doncaster Royal Infirmary in the next bed to Paul.
"We kept in touch after that and I went to his testimonial match at Belle Vue which was a memorable night.
"Gazza and Billy Bremner played and it was really entertaining."
O'Kelly also spoke about another game against Doncaster, this time when he was at Edgar Street. Donny chairman John Ryan took to the pitch late in the game to become the oldest player to play in a Conference game.
"I don't know if John was on in time to get a kick or not.
"If he did it was probably across his shins because I told our centre half to sort him out!"
