The Bulls' first trip to Blundell Park in 17 years will be show live on Sky on Sunday afternoon, with the Bulls looking to maintain an impressive run against the Mariners.
Grimsby have beaten the Bulls just three times in twelve encounters in the league, and just once in six at Blundell Park. The last encounter was a 2-0 win to the Bulls in September 1989 in a season that saw Grimsby promoted and the Bulls finish in the 'famous' 17th place.
Grimsby have been largely disappointing so far this season. Lying 20th with 12 points after losing in the play-offs last season wasn't what most Grimsby fans expected, but the loss of boss Russell Slade and two star players to Yeovil in the summer plus several other departures has seen the club struggle in early exchanges. One thing that doesn't change about Grimsby is defender John McDermott - 733 appearances so far since coming through their youth ranks in 1987 and the only player still at either club to have played in those last matches between the clubs.
The Bulls ground out a home win over Macclesfield on Saturday, but if the Sky executives had seen it they'd probably think twice about showing this game live. Graham Turner will be looking to reverse a dismal run, that has seen just one point from five games on their travels, against a Grimsby side that has conceded six times in their last two games. While the Bulls haven't won away since the opening day, Grimsby haven't won at home since then either.
Lee Mason from Lancashire will be the referee at the game.
Grimsby Town vs Hereford United, Blundell Park, Sunday 8th October, 4pm, Live on Sky.
