Pirates Delay Stadium Plans

Bristol Rovers have delayed their rebuilding plans at the Memorial Stadium for 12 months, and will remain there for the coming season.

The current economic climate forced the builders of student flats to pull out at the weekend, and the club's board have opted to remain at the ground over the coming season with the project not currently viable.

It is expected the club will take up their residency at Cheltenham's Whaddon Road ground next summer, but the delay has seen Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker admit that they will have to reorganise their budget for the coming season: "The revenue was significant and it leaves a big hole in our budget.

"Next year was alwasy going to be difficult and the Rovers money was important to us. We did think it was a done deal. We've already formulated our budget for next season and now we've got to look at it again. It looks like we will have to make some cuts."
