Turner misses out on Hooper's Signature

Hereford United manager Graham Turner has given his thoughts about the move of striker Gary Hooper to Scunthorpe. The ex-Southend player was on loan at Edgar Street late last season and Turner appeared very interested in signing him after an excellent spell for the Bulls.

He also revealed that he was only told yesterday that he had missed out on Hooper's signature.

"I had a phone call from Gary Hooper's agent to say that he would not be joining us," Turner told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"Although we had made an offer and agreed a fee with Southend, three more clubs came in and offered more money.

"His agent felt he had the right to listen to offers from us, but I think he'll have gone for quite a big offer."

Meanwhile Hooper had spoken to the official Scunthrope website about his move.

"I spoke to Nigel (Adkins) and he's a good manager, who has managed to bring on three strikers in three years.

"I was also impressed with the ground and the club. Hopefully I can make a good contribution.

"Nigel said they (the strikers) practice their finishing in training every day and I got a good feel when I came here.

"As long as they (the midfield) put it in the box, I will try and put my head or any part of the body onto it to put it in the net."
