Notts County's claimed backers are not so fabulously wealthy as club press reports claim.
The club's official website has already had to backtrack on one named investor, now it will have to deal with another after The Guardian tracked down Anwar Shafi. Shafi, a member of one of the two families said to have international business interests, was quoted on the website declaring his family's vast wealth but he told the paper he never made the comments:
"We are prominent families of the Indian sub-continent, and specifically Punjab. But we are not tycoons, not even in Pakistan."
Shafi says he was approached by Qadbak to act as a spokesman and ambassador, but turned the role down despite being offered several million dollars in share options. The Football League meet tomorrow to discuss the situation.
