Total attendance at Football League matches passed 17 million for the first time in 50 years according to a press release.
The 1,656 matches totalled 17.1million, beating the 1959/60 total and up 4.4% on 08/09 with the average gate at a match now over 10,000. In the Championship gates were just under 10 million, keeping it the fourth most attended league in Europe ahead of both the Italian and French top flights. League One crowds were up 21% to average over 9,000.
In League two the average gate was 3,853, a slight fall on last season.
