Biggest Away Win Since?

Last Saturday's 5-0 away win at Stockport gave Hereford United historian Ron Parrott a good reason to look back at other great away wins over the years. Here's what he found.

United's wonderful 5-0 win at Stockport County last week had me reaching for my record books to see how it compares with other big away wins in the league during the Club's history and it produced some fascinating facts. United have scored five goals and more away from home on no less than 32 occasions and the Stockport result lies at joint 13th in history but stands out because it is only the third time that United have achieved the feat in the Football League.

The best of these was United's thrashing of Burnley at Turf Moor by 6-0 in 1986/87, then last weekend's victory at Stockport and finally, a 5-3 win at Boundary Park against Oldham Athletic close to the end of Hereford's one and only season in the old Second Division in 1976/77.

Standing proudly at the top of the list is that unforgettable night at Dagenham in 2003/04 when we thrashed the home side 9-0 and in front of the SKY TV cameras to boot! Other highlights were an 8-1 win at Wellington St. Georges in 1929/30, 7-1 at Chingford in 1949/50 and a most enjoyable 7-1 win at Forest Green Rovers in 2003/04.
