Turner helped me a lot - Hooper

Gary Hooper is hoping he might get a chance of playing for England one day especially as he has already scored 11 goals in 12 starts this season with Celtic. And in a long article with the Daily Record he hasn't forgotten how his time in lower League football gave him plenty of experience.

"It's a good experience to get under your belt as lower-league football gets you used to the physical side first and then everything else comes into place when you move up," said Hooper.

"At Grays, when we were in the Conference, I thought we had a good team and could have achieved more. That was bourne out by the fact many of the lads did move to a higher level.

"Even when I was down the pecking order at Southend United and loaned out I just got on with the job of scoring goals and linking up play.

"You just want to play so it helped going out on loan to Leyton Orient and then Hereford.

"Those spells helped me get the move to Scunthorpe - and it has gone well from there.

"If I hadn't gone to Hereford you never know what might have happened. The manager there, Graham Turner, helped me a lot.

"He played me in a good team and we won promotion."
