News Round-Up

Macclesfield have signed holding midfielder Scott Kay on a one year deal after he was released by Man City. The 22 year old never got off the bench for the first team at Eastlands. Port Vale are targeting former Bulls trialist Ryan Burge, released Walsall defender Clayton McDonald, and Bournemouth striker Ben Williamson.

Burton keeper Adam Legzdins is close to a move to Derby with the two sides on the verge of agreeing a £200,000 deal for the player. The Rams are expected to loan one of their other keepers back to the Brewers as part of the deal. Cheltenham are reported to be in talks with former loan winger Jake Thomson, who was on loan at Whaddon Road last year.

Barrow have completed the signing of former Bulls midfielder Andy Ferrell on a one year deal. He spent part of last season on loan at Holker Street before being released by Gateshead. Grimsby have signed former Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers midfielder Craig Disley on a two year deal. Plymouth's Administrator and chairman Peter Ridsdale will face fans on Monday to answer questions on the club's takeover.

Northampton's move for Stockport midfielder Paul Turnbull is back on after the two clubs agreed a fee for a second time. The Cobblers pulled out of the deal three days ago over changes in the terms.

More Managers Dismissed

The 2010/11 season saw a rise in manager dismissals compared to 2009/10 according to figures from the League Managers Association. There were 58 changes of manager last season with dismissals accounting for 40 of those. This compared with 2009/10 during which there were 51 changes and 36 dismissals.

Seven Premier League managers were dismissed during 2010/11 as opposed to 10 in the Championship, 12 in League One, and 11 in League Two (as of 5pm on Thursday 2nd June 2011). While it might come as a surprise to many that the Premier League came bottom of the ‘sack race’ it should be noted that only 20 clubs make up the top flight as opposed to 24 in every other league.

The LMA’s figures also show that the average time for a manager spent in post this season was 1.58 years – up from last year’s figure of 1.4 years. LMA Chief Executive Richard Bevan described the average tenure as “worryingly low”. Ironically, while the average tenure actually increased last season the LMA said this was due to the dismissal of a number of long-serving managers.

Dave Jones (Cardiff City, six years), Rafa Benitez (Liverpool, 5.5 years), Steve Tilson (Southend United, 6.6 years) and Paul Trollope (Bristol Rovers, 5.23 years) all lost their jobs during the period recorded. That meant the group of long-standing managers’ years in post were recorded in this year's average tenure figures - a manager's average lifespan at a club isn't recorded until he's left his post.

Two thirds of dismissed managers last season were sacked at below average tenure – that is within one and a half years. Half of those dismissed were gone within a year of appointment while nine managers were sacked six months of being appointed.

The averages vary slightly across leagues, with average tenure in the Barclays Premier League highest at just over two years (2.07), the npower Championship at 1.4 years (and indeed until the sacking of Dave Jones this week, Championship tenure stood at an average of only 0.89 years, or ten and a half months in post), and npower Leagues 1 and 2 at 1.67 years and 1.33 years respectively.

Footnote: Simon Davey lasted just ten League games last season at Hereford United.

Pitman welcomes Facey

Hereford United manager Jamie Pitman has spoken about the signing of striker Delroy Facey.

"We are delighted to have him on-board," Pitman told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"It's something that perhaps we missed when we lost Mattie [Mathieu Manset to Reading] where we needed that sort of striker to give us something different.

"He comes with an abundance of experience and he has played at a good level.

"He does work hard and does a job for the team and hopefully he will score a few more goals than he has done in recent years.

"That hopefully will come with the style that we are going to be trying to play but we are absolutely delighted to have him here."

Later in the interview Pitman confirmed that he had spoken to former Oldham striker Lewis Alessandra who has since signed for Morecambe.

"I had a chat with him but he's decided to stay up north where his roots are.

"I have to work within a budget, I can only give players certain amounts of money."

Leslie Set To Accept Shrews Offer

Former Bulls loanee Steve Leslie is set to sign a new deal with Shrewsbury next week.

The 23 year old had been stalling on a new deal, but Graham Turner told the Shropshire Star: "I've been told verbally by Steve's agent that he has agreed to the offer."

Leslie is due to sign the deal after he returns from holiday.

Facey pens Bulls’ contract

Striker Delroy Facey has finally put pen to paper and committed to The Bulls for the coming season The Club has reported.

Huddersfield born Facey started his career with his home-town club where he made 75 appearances before moving to Bolton Wanderers for a fee that included an initial £100k plus add-ons. Other clubs to have benefited from his services are Burnley, West Brom, Hull, Oldham and, more recently, Notts County and Lincoln. Although never a prolific scorer he has always been highly regarded as a team player and someone who inspired colleagues to perform – a quality that saw him made team captain at Sincil Bank.

He is a current International player for Grenada scoring twice in the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup.

Was Brian Evans the last HUFC player to be called up for Duty while he was at Edgar Street?

Should the Meadow End be Sponsored?

At Edgar Street, the Home of Hereford United, the two main stands are sponsored.

The Merton Stand is sponsored by M&M and the Len Weston Stand is sponsored by Cargill.

When the Blackfriars End is rebuilt and then probably designated as a family stand, it will have a sponsor. Already there has been some interest from local companies.

So the question has been posed, should the Meadow End be sponsored?

In truth some potential sponsors might be put off by its condition but others, particularily supporters with links to business who have stood in the stand for a number of seasons, might like to be associated with a part of the stadium that is steeped in the history of Hereford United.

Anyone or any business interested in sponsoring the Meadow End are asked to get in touch with the club on 0844 276 1939.

Meanwhile for the coming season the club has decided to offer businesses an enhanced match day deal which as well as sponsoring a game will include a page in the programme as well as mentions on the scoreboard. More details will available next week.

News Round-Up

Bradford have failed in a bid for veteran Rochdale captain Gary Jones. The 34 year old was offered a two year deal by the Bantams, but their move failed after Rochdale matched it. Rotherham midfielder Nicky Law is reported to be on the verge of a move to Motherwell in the SPL. The move would mean the out of contract 23 year old would leave on a free. The Millers have accepted one offer for the player from Crawley, while Scunthorpe have cancelled their interest due to personal terms.

Accrington winger Jimmy Ryan is set for a move to Scunthorpe after talks this week. Ryan, 22, is out of contract with Stanley and would require a fee to be agreed. Grimsby say they have rejected a 'derisory' offer for ex-Bulls striker Alan Connell from an unnamed club. The Mariners have signed forward Damian Spencer on a one year deal. Rotherham report that they have had no interest in transfer listed pair Tom Pope and Mark Bradley.

Rochdale have signed in-demand striker Ashley Grimes. The 24 year old worked with new Spotland boss Steve Ayre as a Man City trainee. Walsall boss Dean Smith has named former Grimsby manager Neil Woods as head of youth at the Saddlers. AFC Wimbledon have rejected an offer from Bournemouth for midfielder Steven Gregory. The offer was said to be 'way below' the Wombles valuation.

Macclesfield have signed defender Jonathan Bateson following his release by Accrington. The former Blackburn trainee played only 12 times for Stanley last term before being sent out on loan to Altrincham. Plymouth are claimed to have sacked midfielder Kari Arnason after he refused to defer his wages for June. The club claim he was given a free transfer to seek a move back to his native Iceland.

Kettering have named Morrell Maison as their new manager to replace the departed Marcus Law. Their fans are threatening to start up their own club in the wake of moves to take the club to Rushden's ground. Their Supporters Trust has voted in favour of starting a new club rather than following the Poppies at Nene Park. Rotherham have agreed a new contract with midfielder Jason Taylor. He was claimed to be a Bulls target by Sky Sports earlier in June.

Torquay have confirmed the signing of former loanee Joe Oastler after his release by QPR. The 20 year old midfielder played 23 times for the Gulls last term. AFC Wimbledon have signed defender Mat Mitchel-King following his release from Crewe. The former Histon central defender played 51 games in two years for the Railwaymen.

Constantine leaves York

Former Bulls' striker Leon Constantine has been released by Conference side York City.

Constantine liked up with The Minstermen in September 2010 and played in 29 games scoring on eight occasions.  He was today told he was free to find another club.  The 33 year-old lower league journeyman has had fifteen spells with fourteen clubs in just ten years.

Alessandra Signs For Morecambe

Bulls target Lewis Alessandra has signed for Morecambe, the Shrimps have announced tonight.

The 22 year old spoke to the Bulls last week but has opted to remain in the North West following his release from Oldham. The Shrimps have also signed former Hamilton midfielder Gary McDonald. The 29 year old has also played for Oldham and Aberdeen.

News Round-Up

Shrewsbury have agreed a new contract with teenage forward Jon Taylor after 'emergency talks'. The Shrews have also signed striker Marvin Morgan following his release from Aldershot. The 30 year old angered Shots fans after making threats towards them on Twitter. He replaces Nathan Elder, who had his contract with the Shrews terminated by 'mutual consent' The former Brentford striker had a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon at the start of 2010.

Swindon have signed striker Raffaelle de Vita on a two year deal. The 23 year old has spent the last two years with Scottish Second Division side Livingston, scoring 11 times last season. Former Bulls target Chris McPhee has told the press he is yet to receive any firm offers this summer. The former Kidderminster man turned down both the Bulls and Crawley in January, and says there are a couple of clubs interested in speaking to him.

Torquay are to appoint Exeter youth coach Shaun Taylor as their assistant manager. Taylor played with boss Martin Ling at Swindon. The Gulls are also looking at bringing in Yeovil midfielder Alex Russell as player/coach. Northampton have signed former loanee Ben Tozer on a two year deal. The former Newcastle man played 31 times on loan at Sixfields last term.

Macclesfield midfielder Hamza Bencherif has signed for Notts County on a two year deal after rejecting a new contract at Moss Rose. Dagenham are reported to have agreed a £400,000 deal with Charlton over the sale of winger Danny Green, with an offer from a Championship side claimed to be false.

Accrington striker Terry Gornell has rejected a new deal with the club. The former Tranmere trainee scored 13 goals last term. Bristol Rovers have signed Irish defender Michael Smith from Ballymena. The 22 year old has signed a two year deal after spending his career so far in the Northern Ireland Carling Premiership.

AFC Wimbledon say they have turned down several bids for striker Danny Kedwell as they do not meet their valuation. They have not disclosed a fee, but say it is more than the £60,000 offered by Crawley last season. Kidderminster have agreed a fee with York over the Minstermen's signing of winger Matty Blair. Newport have signed former AFC Wimbledon and Barnet defender Ismail Yakubu.

Leyton Orient have lost the first part of their legal battle over the Olympics Stadium. The High Court have rejected their bid to get a judicial review of the decision to hand West Ham the stadium after the 2012 games.

Kevan Departure Confirmed

Bulls coach Dave Kevan has left the club for Stoke City, the club have confirmed.

After strong rumours at the weekend, Kevan has left Edgar Street for a youth coaching role with the Premier League side.

The Hereford Times reports that Jamie Pitman intends to have a replacement installed by next Wednesday and the start of pre-season.

Steady Season Ticket Sales

Hereford United supporters have seldom been known to buy their season tickets early unless a big discount has been available so the news that sales are steady will come as little surprise to supporters.

"I think they are going okay," said Tim Russon, the Hereford United vice-chairman.

"I think they are on a par with last year. We will look to the next few weeks for a bit of a lift.

"At present there's not a lot happening, the players are away.

"I think the players come back from holiday next Wednesday and as soon as they come back there is a bit of a buzz around the town. The pre-season friendlies start, people start talking about us. The Bulls are back in training, there are pictures in the papers and Fleets is back.

"Then hopefully the word spreads around.

"I think Hereford United fans are pretty set in their ways in so much as they do things at certain times and I'm sure there are lots of fans who wait to see how things are going.

"Hopefully following on from Christmas last year I think there is a lot of reason to be optimistic."

Footnote: Hereford United season tickets now include cup matches so are even better value then last season.

Keyte happy with New Youth Set-up

David Keyte has told the Hereford Times that he is happy with the progress of the new set-up at Edgar Street.

"The youth project is one that I wanted to see get off the ground," said the Hereford United chairman.

"I spoke to Graham Turner and he said it would cost £80,000 a year to run a centre of excellence and he felt there was not enough talent in the Herefordshire to warrant that.

"I think it’s wider than the finances and the potential knock-ons of having a local player in the side.

"John Layton had three trial nights recently where we had nearly 200 lads wanting to play for Hereford United.

"In the past local lads have gone off to the likes of Cheltenham and Cardiff.

"There’s not a huge sporting talent in Herefordshire but if there are three or four in each age group, we’d be delighted with that."

Edgar Street is in Prime Condition

Edgar Street looks in prime condition after being reseeded in places by Hereford United fan Ian Prichard and his Mowtech company.

"We're absolutely thrilled with it," said Bulls vice-chairman Tim Russon.

"One of the best signings we've made recently is a new groundsman. He's a Hereford fan, Ian Prichard. He loves the job.

"He takes so much tender loving care of it. I think he's sleeping here.

"Every time I come he is here on his mower and looking around now, I think we've got another month before the first friendly against Birmingham, I know it won't be Wembley but this is beautiful.

"One of the major problems we had when I arrived was rabbits on the pitch. They would dig up bits of the pitch, so Paul, our stadium guy, has spent a lot of time filling up every single rabbit hole.

"So now if you're a rabbit you have to be able to jump three foot in the air to get over the boundary wall to dig the pitch."

Meanwhile there's a new 'striker' at Edgar Street but it's unlikely he will score many, if any goals. Currently he is in the middle of the pitch trying to keep the birds off the grass.

"The new striker doesn't move a lot, he's a bit static, people say he hasn't got much pace.

"But if Adam Bartlett can plant a goal kick on his head he could knock it on and Fleets could run through and score!"

BN to Sponsor Fleetwood

Bulls News is pleased to announce that it will be sponsoring Stuart Fleetwood for the second season running.

The Hereford United striker scored 18 goals last season which, considering he didn't start finding the back of the net until October 16th, was a reasonable total.

On top of that Fleets was often the only striker on the pitch particularily towards the end of last season when manager Jamie Pitman favoured a 4-5-1 system.

Sponsorship of a player will cost the same as last season, £300 plus VAT. More details will be announced by the club next Monday.

Facey yet to sign for Bulls

As at late this afternoon, Hereford United haven't signed Delroy Facey or any other striker. That doesn't imply the club haven't been in talks with strikers, but does confirm that until a player puts pen to paper, any signing will not be announced by the club.

Asked by BN if the club had signed any striker so far, Tim Russon was guarded.

"No not yet," said the Hereford United vice-chairman.

"This time of year you talk to lots of people, have lots of plans."

Asked if there was anything in the rumours about Delroy Facey coming to Hereford, Russon replied 'I think they are correct'.

"It is only right and proper for us to say that somebody has signed when they have signed on the dotted line. Anything could happen in football as we've seen. People can change their mind at the last minute.

"Jamie is in charge of the team and Jamie is the man that will say right I've signed this player or that player.

"At the end of the season we said to Jamie go away. He knew he had a budget, it's his team, it's for him to bolt the team together.

"He will come and tell us when he wants somebody to sign or draw up a contract."

Russon did confirm that former Oldham striker Lewis Alessandra had been to Edgar Street last week for talks.

As regards both Janos Kovacs and Sean Canham, both are expected to report for training next Wednesday along with the rest of the squad.

Kovacs has been training in Hungary recently.

"Well he's due back next Wednesday," said Russon. "He's still our player!

"Canham and Kovacs are on the transfer list but they are still our players.

"Jamie has an idea of his team and neither figure in his plans. They know where they stand."

Leslie Plays Waiting Game

Former Bulls winger, and rumoured target, Steve Leslie is reported to have made no contact with Shrewsbury over their contract offer to him.

The 23 year old is said to be at the end of the statutory month that he had to decide wether to accept or reject the offer. He played 11 times for the Bulls, scoring twice, during a three month loan at Edgar Street. It is unclear at the moment whether the Shrews have offered terms sufficient to demand a fee for the winger should he opt for a move.

Meanwhile, Shrews teenager Jon Taylor has rejected a new deal with the club with boss Graham Turner looking to hold 'emergency talks' with the player that is being targeted for a free transfer move to Scotland.

News Round-Up

Northampton have cancelled a deal to sign Stockport midfielder Paul Turnbull after the Hatters changed the terms of the transfer fee. Plymouth's Administrator has announced that the final sale of the club has been agreed with the Irish consortium bidding for the club. Plans for the sale have now been submitted for Football League approval.

Bristol Rovers have confirmed talks with veteran striker Jamie Cureton. The 35 year old scored 20 goals for Exeter last term but is out of contract and has stalled on a new deal at St James Park. Former Cheltenham striker Damian Spencer is keen to talk to the club over a return to Whaddon Road. The big forward was released by Aldershot earlier in the summer after an injury plagued season.

Swindon are the latest side to pull out of a reserve league for the coming season. The Robins have offered veteran Italian defender Alberto Comazzi a deal at the County Ground. The 32 year old is currently plying his trade in the Italian regional leagues after starting his career at AC Milan. Both Preston and Sheff Utd are to seek talks with the Football League over the new salary cap in League One with both concerned they will easily breach the rules with their existing Championship level wage deals.

Crawley are reported to have lodged a bid for out-of-contract Inverness striker Adam Rooney. He scored 22 goals for Thistle last term, and has previously worked with current Crawley coach Craig Brewster. Dagenham have accepted a bid from an unnamed Championship side for winger Danny Green according to Sky Sports. The Daggers had previously rejected bids from Charlton and Peterboro.

Bradford coach David Wetherall has left the club after 12 years to take up the post of Head of Youth Development with the Football League. In his new role Wetherall will be responsible for overseeing the Academies and Centres of Excellence at FL clubs. Dagenham have signed Chelmsford striker Rob Edmans for a five figure fee. The 6ft 7in forward previously spent time in US College football.

At a fans forum Stockport told fans their squad budget would be £500-600,000 this season rather than the £400,000 suggested earlier in the year. They admitted being a month behind on rent payments on Edgeley Park, and will see rent increase when Sale Sharks leave the ground next year but will also get income as a result. AFC Wimbledon's opening League fixture against Bristol Rovers has been selected for live Sky coverage, kicking off at 12.45pm on the opening day.

The Third HUISA Newsletter from 1997

Continuing BN's look back at what was going on around Edgar Street at the start of the Conference era, here's HUISA's third newsletter from the summer of 1997.

Welcome to the latest HUISA newsletter. A short introduction this time in order to fit everything onto the page!!

The latest liaison committee meeting with Graham Turner took place at Edgar Street on 30th July. The following news/views and other rubbish were discussed, whilst my kids played outside on the hallowed turf!!

Player Update:

Hargreaves - Barnet and it seems a host of other clubs who have obviously not seen him play regularly appear to be interested. GT has talked of a "clear" fee of k, which if WBA insist on their 50% could mean a club forking out k for him. at about .5k per goal the boy seems a bit of a bargain doesn't he? I hope he goes to Cardiff for obvious reasons.

Cook and Warner are still on week to week terms and there's still no interest from other clubs. I've just seen both play against Westfields and would suggest that they apply to the Vatican, as they both appear to have a better chance of being the next Pope, than getting another club interested in them! GT has said that the ball is in their court now, I bet they fucking lose it!!

Charles West the keeper who made an impressive debut against Gloucester, is being considered for a contract, as cover for Macca's back and DeBont's stomach. Leyster (ex Hull YT) and Kelly (ex Huddersfield) are "unlikely" to be offered contracts at this stage. Patterson has gone to Kingstonian (now managed by Geoff "Woking" Chapple), who offered him a wad of cash apparently. He looked far to much like Hargreaves for my liking anyway.

The Grayson fee is k, to be paid in instalments over 18 months. GT is as amazed as we are, that the Chairman actually agreed to pay a fee for someone! He is also after a striker called Linton Brown from Swansea (who previously paid k to get him from Hull). Brown is a friend of Norts (who is now the Club's chief scout it seems) who reckons with him, Agana and Grayson up front, we'd have the most "awesome" (his word not mine) strike force in the Conference. Brown is available, as he's fallen out with Molby for not being fat enough and refusing to speak in a Scouse accent!

GT doesn't think that Williams will get a long term contract at Walsall. The man has gone there for less money and for a one month trial, when the Bulls offered him a 12 month contract. He is unlikely to win businessman of the year award! GT says that Williams has "burnt his bridges" with the Bulls, so don't expect to see him back (unless its driving the team bus, like at Carlisle last year).

Ian Rodgerson who has still looked the business, in pre-season, is expected to sign a 12 month contract any day now!

Current squad is: DeBont, Mackenzie (non-contract), West (probable), Norts, Matthewson, Brough, Walker, Rodgerson (almost definite) Fishlock, Pitman, Mahon, McGorry, Hargreaves (sort of), Ian Foster, Jordan, Grayson and Agana. Plus Cook and Warner. And Brown as a possible. Not surprisingly GT expects to go a little over budget and is looking to gate receipts to make up the difference. Bring a friend therefore!!

COMMERCIAL MANAGER: John Pulling has been given notice and will leave his post on 17th August. The Club are advertising for a young and thrusting replacement. In some respects I am sorry to see John go, as his heart has always been in the Club. It cannot be disputed however, that the Commercial side of the Club has not achieved anything like its true potential.

FANS FORUM: The boy Graham has done good and has persuaded Peter Hill (our beloved Chairman, in case you had forgotten) to attend a Fans Forum on WEDNESDAY 13thAUGUST, 7.30pm start. (Mission Impossible - pah!). He will probably by accompanied by the rest of the Board (not too many chairs required at the front therefore). Questions to me please. Tomatoes to be left at home!

HUISA MEMBERS MEETING: Even more impressive than the FF, if the fact that we have a date and location for the inaugural (first ever that means Job) meeting of HUISA. Thanks to the efforts of Mike Worthing, it will take place at the Richmond Place Club, (just across Edgar Street, from the ground) on 16thAugust, with a 12.00pm start. The meeting will last no more than 1 - 2 hours, if that long, so we will be able to get to the Welling game in plenty of time. The agenda is open (let me know if you have any burning issues), but it is intended to discuss, the structure of HUISA, its future policy/direction, minimum height and sex requirements for members blah blah blah blah. Please note that this is a MEMBERS ONLY MEETING, although new members will be able to join on the day. Oh yes and we will be able to drink at Club prices which are about 60p per pint, cheaper than local pubs! I take it Turvey that you will be attending?

GOLF DAY: Thanks to the efforts of Richard Hemmings, the HUISA Golf Day will go ahead on Thursday 25 September, at the Herefordshire Golf Club, at Wormsley. Format is as per the last Newsletter. Entry forms are available from Richard on 01432 830465. We are now particularly looking for Hole Sponsorship (available at a minimum of a go) and some volunteers to help on the day. Please contact me or Richard if you can help. All profits will go to the Hereford United Supporters Fund.

AWAY TRAVEL: The Club has agreed to give us its backing and full publicity to away travel, for the coming season. They, like HUISA, now recognise the importance of support at away grounds. The transport which will be guaranteed, for every away game for the coming season, we be arranged by Gary "Tango" Smith, but can be booked at the Club Shop (or should that be the Leisure ZZZZZone?). Payment will be required in advance however, to avoid the situation which saw Gary having to pay several hundred pounds from his own pocket, when people failed to turn up last season. Gary will provide fuller details at the Members Meeting, for which he is to be congratulated, for turning up two weeks early!! All profit from the away travel, will again go to the Supporters Fund.

DOVER TRIP: Whilst on the subject to away travel, interest has been expressed in a trip to coincide with our "attractive" fixture away at Dover Athletic on 29th December. Basically the idea revolves around getting rat-arsed on a ferry to France after watching the game, sleeping it off in a cheap hotel and possibly a days racing/shopping/throwing up on the 30th. If you might be interested, please contact me for details.

XMAS DINNER/DANCE: HUISA plan to hold a dinner dance at Christmas, first as a fund raising event and second as an excuse to get seriously drunk. The provisional date for your diary is 13th December, which is the day we play Hednesford at home and go top of the table. Location will be somewhere in Hereford, with this and the cost of the tickets to be confirmed. GT has agreed to come along and give a speech and present the raffle prizes. We will also try to get one or two other famous ex-Bulls along for the night. Donations for the raffle would be most welcome, we already have 2 of the Brighton shirts (many thanks to Mr/Mrs Pobiega and Mr Williams) and will include the signed Match Ball, from the Welling game.

HUISA DONATIONS: Things have improved in this area since the issue of the last newsletter - but not by much! Our current total (as they say on Blue Peter) stands at 0, the product of donations from some 23 members. HUISA membership on the other hands stands at over 100, so it doesn't take a genius to see that there are a lot of potential "Peter Hills" out there. I was tempted to print a "list of shame" with this Newsletter, but decided against it. You may not be so lucky next time!!! Cheques made payable to the Hereford United Supporters Fund please! It is also possible to arrange standing order payments into the account for anybody who is interested in donating a few quid every month; please let me know if you would like details.

The funds raised so far will be used to sponsor Neil Grayson (did we fall lucky or wot!) for the season and the first home match against Welling. I have also asked the Club to set aside the last home game against R&D (complete with Donkey), which could of course be all important. GT has also set us a target of raising enough to allow him to take the players to Dover, the day before the game. This will cost 0+, so we will need to get our wallets out and smartish!! I hope to be able to report a surge in donations in the next Newsletter. Or are we really Welsh after all???

OPEN DAY: Despite the short notice and piss poor publicity, this was a reasonable success. Well over 200 people attended and the Club took something like 00, from the various activities, taking place. Full marks to the players, who all entered into the spirit of the day and unstintingly provided all the autographs/photos requested. I believe the plan is now to make this a regular annual event, which is to be welcomed, provided it is organised and publicised better. Oh yes and I won an autographed ball in the raffle (yessssss!!) Norts (or should it be Del Boy from now on?) has established his future career, as a market trader.

THE PITCH: The Open Day gave us the chance to take a close look at the Pitch, (despite GT's Farmer Palmer impression "Get Orff Moi Lannnd"). It is in shit order, although the players reckon it is better than last year. The lack of a professional groundsman, for the largest part of the Summer has clearly not helped.

WORCESTER CITY: HUISA has been approached about the possibility of re-instating regular games against our "popular" local rivals, perhaps for some sort of Cup on a home and away basis (and no Job that doesn't mean that Australian Soap stars would be allowed to play). Both Clubs are apparently in favour, but the Police want some assurance that there won't be pitched battles between the fans; bright ideas are welcome and perhaps this is something to be discussed at the Members Meeting.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES - THE RESULTS SO FAR!

25th July - Sloppy Town (H) 1-2 (last minute again)

27th July - Stoke City (H) 1-3 (some bad defending, but Stoke are a good side)

29th July - Gloucester City (A) 4-1 (3-1 if you are a copper) And a Scouser Hat-Trick

2nd August - Oxford United (H) 1-0 (Oxford are going to struggle, a beauty from Grayson)

4th August - Westfields (A) 0-1 (not a lot of talent on show)

6th August - Newport City (A) - TBA

9th August - Merthyr Tydfil (A) - TBA

GOAL MAGAZINE: Personally I had never heard of this magazine before, as I only read the ones on the top shelf. But they have done a short interview with yours truly, which they intend to include in a piece on Supporters Groups more generally, in their September issue. They approached HUISA, because they wanted to talk to the more "active" groups. Our fame is spreading!

DONKEY T-SHIRTS: I have spoken to Norts who reckons he can get us T-shirts with a picture of a donkey on and the words "I play for Rushden and Diamonds" or "For Sale - Apply Manager Rushden and Diamonds". If you are interested and as childish as me, let me know. There has also been some interest in a series of lettered T-shirts with the following arrangement:

FOSTER IS SHITE

AND

OFFSIDE DONKEY
on the reverse. They would look wonderful at R&D on the 11th October don't you think. 13 volunteers required. I can hear it now: STAND UP - IF YOU THINK FOSTER'S SHITE, STAND UP ETC ETC.

BULMERS: The bastards have refused to help HUISA (despite Andy Graham's efforts) or the Club, in any way at all. Drink something else therefore. We will be writing to the Hereford Times to comment on their generosity of spirit, given their recent announcement of a .1M profit made thanks to Hereford Apples and the efforts of Herefordians. Tesco and Sainsburys supported the Open Day despite the short notice, Safeway refused!

BACK THE BULLS - BACK TO THE LEAGUE

HUISA CO-ORDINATOR AND OFFICIAL EATER OF ALL THE PIES

News Round-Up

Sky will cover Bradford's Carling Cup match with Leeds as part of their First Round coverage. Rotherham have confirmed that forward Ryan Taylor has signed for Bristol City. The two sides are yet to agree a fee for the 23 year old. Shrewsbury have banned five supporters from their ground for 'several breaches' of ground regulations.

Plymouth's backroom staff have been told they may never receive all of their outstanding wages. Peter Ridsdale told staff that none of the club's bidders wants to foot the outstanding £3.2million of football debts, even though paying those debts is one of the conditions set by the Football League of all it's member clubs. Southend captain Craig Easton has turned down a new contract with the club and will leave on a free. The 32 year old ex-Swindon midfielder signed a one year deal last summer.

Bradford bidder Steve Parkin is said to have made an improved offer for the club. The current Guiseley director is said to have offered Julian Rhodes and Mark Lawn a guaranteed £2.5million for the Bantams. Former Northampton striker Leon Mackenzie is facing six charges of perverting the course of justice after providing false documents to escape six speeding fines. He faces jail if convicted, and is pinning his hopes on a bureaucratic cock-up by Police.

Yeovil boss Terry Skiverton has admitted using Twitter and fans' recommendations on players to identify summer targets. He told the BBC the club couldn't afford a scouting network adding "I'd like to thank the supporters for adding a bit of amateur scouting, it's worked out really well for us." Skiverton has 1800 followers on the site. Among their recommendations are former Bulls Alan Connell and Joe Anyinsah.

Rotherham are reported to have parted company with forward Ian Thomas-Moore by mutual consent. The 34 year old told his Twitter followers he had left the club after only signing for a fee in January, shortly before his father Ronnie was sacked by the club.

Brentford Match Tuesday Night

It has been confirmed that the Carling Cup First Round match with Brentford will take place on Tuesday August 9th with a 7.45pm kick-off.

Prices are similar to normal 2011/12 admission prices, although the usual £3 under-11's tickets are instead £5 for anyone under 16. Holders of full season tickets can get into the game for free.

Done moves to Barnsley

Former Hereford United winger Matty Done has moved from Rochdale to Championship club Barnsley.

Done has followed manager Keith Hill who left Rochdale for Barnsley last month after a successful spell at the club.

22 year old Done joined the Bulls from Wrexham in June 2008. He made 56 appearances during a two year stay but was released in May 2010. He signed for Rochdale two months later.

It is understood a fee will be paid by Barnsley as Done was under contract at Rochdale.

Meanwhile another former Bulls winger is claimed to be the target of another Championship side. Mark Marshall has told the press he wants to leave Barnet with Crystal Palace one of a number of higher graded sides eyeing up the former Edgar Street loanee.

The Second HUISA Newsletter

Continuing BN's short series of HUISA newsletters from the early Conference era, here's the second one written on or around July 17th 1997.

Welcome to the second newsletter issued on behalf of HUISA, to all members. This edition as well as providing a general update, on what is (or is not as the case may be) happening at the Club, will also attempt to summarise the main points to emerge from the Fans Forum on 16th July, for the benefit of those who couldn't make it on the night (OO ER Missus!!) and those (including me) who weren't listening.

PLAYER UPDATE:

Tony Agana is now fully committed to the Club, the trouble is if you exclude Scouser he is our only recognised striker. Williams has gone to Plymouth (according to GT) or Walsall (according to the Text), for a months trial despite the offer of a contract from the Bulls (so much for kissing the badge at Lincoln last season). Foster's fee from R&D was k and this has gone straight into the bank in order to pay the players wages! Hargreaves - Chesterfield have not pursued their interest and whilst GT would say that he had received an enquiry from a Div. 3 Club he would not be drawn (there's still life in the Chalkey swap rumour therefore). We were given the low-down on the Mountfield saga - the man basically has no integrity, though it must be said that the Club missed a trick in not getting his signature on the contract when he turned up for pre-season training. Ntamark has gone to Hednesford for the money - Brough has come to us for the money! Cook and Warner have agreed to sign week to week terms for next season, there has been no interest in either from other clubs (yes I was surprises about that to - not). Two unnamed players (one believed to be OOH Johnny Narbett) declined to join the club on the day of the FF!

Current "agreed" squad is therefore: DeBont, Mackenzie (non-Contract), Norts, Matthewson, Brough, Fishlock, Pitman, Mahon, McGorry, Ian Foster, Jordan, Agana plus Cook and Warner. Bring your boots to the friendly with the Slops therefore.

GT still hopes to be able to play three up front, at the moment it looks like being Agana and his twin brothers Agana and Agana (or perhaps they will photocopy him). Not surprisingly perhaps his expressed priorities for new signings are a Striker, Centre Half and a Central Midfielder, although the latter might have to become another striker. With just k left in his annual salary budget don't go expecting Baggio! Possible recruits include Steve Thompson (ex. Leicester amongst others), Garry Patterson (ex. Slop), Ian Rodgerson (I don't need to say do I) and Mike Kelly (young local lad released by Huddersfield). There might be some good news on Monday 21st July I'm told????

MORALE: Norts said that the squad's morale was excellent. "There's more in our squad than money can buy" he stated, which is probably just as well. And I'll have a pint of whatever he's on please. Norts having shaken hands on the deal with GT last year, received a better offer from Plymouth (what have they got against us?) and turned it down. Such is the stuff of our Captain - good on you Norts, it's a pity that Mountfield was not made of the same metal.

YOUTH TEAM: Costs about -80k per year and GT was pressed as to why we were continuing with it, given the state of the first team budget. The simple reason is that the Club were contractually committed to it for 1997/98, but with Bosman on the horizon, its long term future, must be in doubt.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES:

24th July - Sloppy Town (H) 7.30pm (Note Changed Date)

27th July - Stoke City (H) 3.00pm

29th July - Gloucester City (A) 7.30pm

2nd August - Oxford United (H) 3.00pm

4th August - Westfields (Not sure - could be Belmont or Rotherwas. The Hereford Times said the latter but you can't trust them can you!)

6th August - Newport AFC (A) 7.30pm

9th August - Merthyr Tydfil (A) 3.00pm

FANS FORUM: The date for the next Fans Forum is not yet known (sorry to the guy who complained at the last FF). As requested HUISA has been in contact with Peter Hill's office, and we are waiting for him to come back to us with an answer on whether he is prepared to attend (???) and if so, with suitable dates. If possible we will try to tie it in with a home game/friendly. If you have any potential questions, I am happy to take them now.

OPEN DAY: The Open Day, is to be held on Sunday 3rd August - start time not yet known. Probable format will be: meet players, training session (them not us), penalty competitions (us not them), raffle etc. If you have any ideas for events I am sure GT would welcome them. The new away shirt (a red/black quartered design), will hopefully be available for sale on the day, as will a new range of T-shirts, proclaiming amongst other things that the Bulls are only on temporary loan to the Conference.

BRIGHTON SHIRTS: On sale for 0 a throw, as a souvenir of our last (ever?) League game they are likely to become collectors items. The programme is already selling for 9. Most of the shirts have already sold but there still remain (at time of going to print): DeBont(1), Warner(3), Sandeman(5), and the subs Turner(12), Wood(13), and Pitman(14). If you are interested contact GT direct at the club on 01432 276666. The shirts can be signed by the individual player or by as many of the Team that remain, plus GT himself. Go on you know it makes sense.

NEW STADIUM: The financial concerns associated with the relocation, remain unanswered. Unfortunately the meeting scheduled with Peter Hill and Robin Sly on 24th June, had to be postponed and we will be looking to reschedule this as soon as possible (in addition to the FF).

GOLF DAY: The HUISA Golf Day at the Herefordshire Golf Club will go ahead on a Wednesday in September (date to be confirmed). It will be a serious competition with good prizes on offer (up to 00), although we also hope to involve the players; GT will make the presentations in the evening. The competition will be for Teams of 4, (max. handicap 20) and the entrance fee is likely to be 0 per team, to include a hot meal (for each member that is, not between them). Any member who has any ideas for possible sponsorship, prizes for a Raffle or would be prepared to help on the day please contact me.

LIAISON MEETINGS: Bit of a cock up on the attendance front, meant that the meeting for 2nd July didn't happen. The next is provisionally scheduled for 31st July at 7pm. If anybody has any points they want raising, please let me know.

THE BOARD: Currently comprises just Hill, Vaughn and Jane Simmons. Efforts made this summer to encourage new members and find new backers for the club have as yet proved unsuccessful. GT has been talking to the ex-Wolves Chairman Dick Cantspellsurname, but his Missus won't let him come out to play.

DEAN SMITH: The Club are still pursuing their complaint with the FL about the basis of the ruling at Deano's tribunal. They cannot afford the costs/risk of legal action however. To add insult to injury, Darren Moore (crap Doncaster Centre Half) has been sold for to Bradford at a Tribunal set fee of 0k. HUISA has written to the Football League asking them to comment on this apparent anomaly (for anomaly read stitch up).

ROBIN SLY: Rumours of his death have been greatly exaggerated but GT confirmed that he no longer has any involvement with the day to day running of the Club. Neither is he involved with the re-development of Edgar Street; his interest is now solely in the site on the Ross road in which his company (Cosworth Developments - Directors Mr R Fry and Mr P Hill) have an option on the land allegedly.

SUPPORTERS CLUB: There is no more news at present on possible improvements to the Carlsberg Suite - its beginning to feel a bit like taking a large riding crop to tins of Shergar!

SEASON TICKETS: Still a bargain and if what GT says is right, the Club need all the help they can get. Please buy one if you can afford to and are intending to go to the majority of the games. The club are budgeting for crowds of 2500 + season ticket holders (a total of 2512 at the moment) and GT is desperate for the fans to get behind the team from the start.

FA CUP: We enter at the 4th Qualifying Round according to GT or the 1st Round proper according to the Hereford Times (take your pick). Either way I can't see Peter Hill getting his rug in the national press! Hednesford and Stevenage definitely get byes to the first round proper, because they aren't called Hereford United FC.

MATCHDAY VOLUNTEERS: No response from anybody to the call included in the last edition of the Newsletter. Must do better. See me after class!

HUISA DONATIONS: Again not to put to fine a point on this, the response has been poor. I know I said it was voluntary, but I was only being polite! If every member of HUISA contributed , we would have close to 00, to put to helping GT. At present we have just 0, the total of just 8 individual donations (you know who you are - please take a bow). I know we can do better, and as was said at the FF, we would like to give a lead in this area (to Peter Hill perhaps - "If we can put our hands in our pockets why can't you?") and show the Team that we the Supporters are behind them 100%.

5) in the name of HUISA; our Association's name is then in the programme every week. The next idea is to sponsor the first game of the season (cost about 0) against Welling, again simply under the HUISA banner. We won't look for any of the normal goodies that go along with match sponsorship, (food, free tickets, etc.), just a signed match ball, that we can then either raffle or auction, amongst HUISA members. If anybody has any violent objections to this initial use of HUISA funds or better still alternative ideas (no pub crawls Turvey), can they contact me.

HUISA MEMBERS MEETING: With increasing membership and much to discuss about the future of the Association and its direction, I believe that we should have a first formal Members Meeting. If anyone has any ideas about where we can hold such an event (a room capable of holding approx. 100, plus beer), at little or no cost ideally, then please let me know. Again it seems sensible to try and aim to have the meeting on the same day as a game, to save on the travelling (I do live in Sloppyland you know).

BACK THE BULLS - BACK TO THE LEAGUE

MIKE "GFB" QUARRELL

HUISA CO-ORDINATOR AND AMAZINGLY STILL A FAT BLOKE

Midson Didn't Speak To Bulls

In his latest blog, new AFC Wimbledon forward Jack Midson has confirmed he had no contact with the Bulls.

The 27 year old sparked something of a chase for his signature on Twitter, but in his latest 'not so secret footballer' posting he told readers:

'And as for Hereford, I’ve never spoken to anyone at the club and, as far as I know, nor has my agent so I’m not sure where that interest came from. It just shows how rumours start and a lot are not true. Hereford seems like a nice club so I wish them all the best for this coming season.'

He also states that Cheltenham made him a 'flattering' offer after he had verbally agreed to join Wimbledon, while Wrexham offered him more money than the Wombles to join them instead, but he opted for League football.

News Round-Up

Cheltenham have confirmed they will sign AFC Wimbledon striker Kaid Mohammed on a two year deal. The 26 year old has been prolific at Conference level, but failed to score in 14 appearances in his previous Football League spell with Swindon. Press reports suggest AFC Wimbledon are asking for £100,000 for striker Danny Kedwell. The club report some interest already in the forward.

Torquay's local press are reporting that the Gulls have a playing budget of just under £1million for the coming season. Plymouth's Fans Trust has called on the club to give the fans 'real transparency' over the impending takeover. A statement from the trust says fans are losing faith in Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle with his June 14th deadline for completing the sale already passed.

Morecambe have denied speculation linking defender Andy Fleming with a move to Lincoln, saying the former Wrexham man is going nowhere. Swindon defender Lescinel Jean-Francois has completed his move to Sheff Utd after rejecting a new deal with the Robins. In the latest League Two betting Crawley are now 100/30 from 7/2. Macclesfield have drifted out to 100/1 outsiders, while second-favourites Swindon have also drifted out to 11/1.

Swindon have loaned former Torquay striker Elliot Benyon to Wycombe for the season. The 23 year old cost the Robins a fee when they took him from Plainmoor in January, but he scored only once in 12 games after netting 14 times for the Gulls in the first half of the season. Dagenham have signed two players from the lower echelons of non-league. Forwards Jake Reed and Brian Woodall come from Great Yarmouth Town and Gresley Rovers respectively, with manager John Still saying they will not be rushed into first team action.

Rotherham have signed striker Chris Holroyd and defender Luke Foster. Holroyd, who scored seven goals in 16 League Two games during loan spells last term, has signed a two year deal. Foster joins on a one year deal after leaving Stevenage halfway through a two year deal. Rushden have confirmed they have appealed against their expulsion from the Conference.

Swindon have seen a third departure of the day to League One with midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern joining Carlisle on a two year deal. The 30 year old was still under contract at the County Ground but leaves on a free.

The First HUISA Newsletter

The first HUISA newsletter was written on June 19th 1997.

It gives a good insight into what was uppermost in their minds just after Hereford United had dropped out of the Football League.

WELCOME to what we hope will be the first in a regular series of newsletters issued on behalf of HUISA, to all members. The purpose is simply to give you all a regular update, on what is (or is not as the case may be) happening at the Club.

Up front I must say that this is not intended to be a replacement or competition for Talking Bull, which I for one, hope will continue and flourish even whilst we are in the f***ing Conference. I hope that all of you reading this will continue to contribute to, buy and read TB; KEEP THE FAITH!!

OK down to business. Members of HUISA together with representatives from the Supporters Club met with Graham Turner at Edgar Street on Tuesday Evening (17th June). This was the second in what will be a regular series of "liaison" meetings with GT - the next is on 2nd July. The following subjects were discussed.

Player Update:

Tony Agana - GT to meet 19/6/97 - there remain some financial differences to resolve but he is under contract. We told GT that Agana is regarded as a key player for 97/98.

Foster/Williams. Both are still considering the Club's offers. Williams is on the available list circulated by the PFA. No interest in either as yet from other Clubs.

Hargreaves - Chesterfield might be interested. Bite, hand and off immediately spring to mind.

GT was due to talk to Derek Mountfield on 18/6/97. Dennison has gone to Hednesford. Hunt (Notts County) to Northampton and Naylor (Telford) to the Slops.

Cook and Warner have still to agree terms for next season.

Current "agreed" squad is: DeBont, Mackenzie (non-contract), Norts, Matthewson, Fishlock, Pitman, Mahon, McGorry, Ian Foster, Jordan and Shakey (I think). All together now.........

GM VAUXHALL CONFERENCE: This now kicks off on 16thAugust and not the 9th. Fixtures will be available by mid-July - published by The Disney Corporation!!!!

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES

25thJuly - Sloppy Town (H)

27thJuly - Stoke City (H)

29thJuly - Gloucester City (A)

2ndAugust - Oxford United (H)

6thAugust - Newport County (A)

9thAugust - TBA (Poss. West Midlands Police) (H)

FANS FORUM: The next Fans Forum will be in the Carlsberg Suite on 16thJuly 1997 at 7.30pm. Questions to me please as soon as possible.

OPEN DAY: GT is looking to hold an Open Day, possibly on the Sunday before the Season starts. Ideas for events are welcome. There may be a new away shirt available on the day. This is likely to be a red/black quartered design, which was the HUISA members preferred choice, from the selection offered by the Club. They admit that the blue/white effort was not a popular choice (now I wonder why???).

NEW STADIUM: A very polished presentation was given by David Dawe, the Architect associated with the Planning Application submitted by Bristol Stadiums Ltd and the Club. It meets all required Govt. Planning Policy Guidelines and is impressive to look at in the designs and artists impressions. The Company are confident of approval although it was stated that the support of Fans was critical. There remain financial concerns associated with the relocation (i.e. how much money will find its way to the Team and how much will go "elsewhere") which Mr. Dawe obviously could not answer. Peter Hill and Robin Fry (ex. MD of HUFC in case you forgot) have agreed to come to a special meeting of the "Liaison" Committee on 24thJune to answer our questions (??????). We might in due course be looking to put together some form of petition to the Council.

GOLF DAY: HUISA is looking to organise a Golf Day at the Herefordshire Golf Club in September. The purpose is to raise funds for GT and the playing side of the Club. Any ideas, possible sponsorship, prizes for a Raffle or help on the day would be appreciated. Please contact me.

SUPPORTERS CLUB: The call for volunteers made in the local press, for help with getting the Supports Club re-furbished, drew a great fat zero response. Where has all the enthusiasm shown at the last Fans Forum gone? Answers on a postcard please!!! We are now looking at improving the Carlsberg Suite - more news when it is available.

SEASON TICKETS: Sales are (not surprisingly) some 50% down on last year. The Club need the money now (i.e. mid-Summer) more than at any other time, so if you are thinking of buying one then please do it now, if you can afford to!!

SPALDING CUP: We have a bye in the first round. Yes I know deal and big immediately spring to mind but I am trying to fill the page!!

BACK THE BULLS - BACK TO THE LEAGUE

HUISA CO-ORDINATOR AND FAT BLOKE

News Round-Up

Dover striker Adam Birchall claims his £250,000 asking price is stopping Football League clubs from bidding for his services. He scored 45 goals in 49 games last season and has told the local press he wants another shot at League football. Lincoln are said to be set for legal action over comments made by chairman Bob Dorrian at a recent fans forum. Shareholder Michael Foley made an investment offer to the board in March, but is now to sue the club and Dorrian for libel and slander over Dorrian's comments about the deal.

Luton have secured a friendly with Serie A side Parma. The Italians are in the country to play two Premier League sides and a Championship team. Kettering chairman Imraan Ladak says he wants Darlington boss Mark Cooper back at Rockingham Road as manager. Cooper was boss there prior to his brief spell at Peterboro.

According to a Football Intelligence report into tax debt at clubs, the 72 clubs in the Football League owed less in tax than the 22 Conference sides at the end of the 2010/11 tax year. FL clubs owed £237,000 with the Conference sides owing £20,000 more and Conf North and South sides owing another £142,000. However it is Northern Ireland football that is in the worst state, with it's 12 club league owing £191,000.

Two Opinions On Facey

Exiled Bull struggles to remembers Delroy Facey at WBA:

"No Great Impact"

...is a polite summary of Delroy’s period at the Hawthorns. He was a Megson short-term signing in January 2004 as the Baggies marched towards their second promotion to the Premier League. To be frank, Megson needed some cheap bench fillers and Delroy was one of several incomers. The newbies got a few minutes on the pitch here and there if they were lucky. Occasionally, Megson’s preferred choices were too knackered to carry on with the required manic running. Geoff Horsfield was then his main striker.

Delroy wore the stripes nine times between January and May 2004 but only two of those were starts. He didn’t score but that wasn’t totally his fault. In that season, Albion strikers were expected to forage on very little, run the channels endlessly and defend a lot a la Stuart Fleetwood. Inevitably in home games, nothing of note happened for an hour until Lloyd Dyer (now of the Franchise) came on to use his pace to set up the winner from the left wing.

Memories are few other than Delroy had pace, missed the few chances he had on the pitch but off it never missed any opening to drop hints how much he’d like to sign for the Baggies. Sorry Delroy, even with such limited time, you never looked like a Premier League player. He was predictably told to go away in the summer.

Maybe Russell Hoult who was Albion’s keeper at the time, saw something in young Delroy during training that stayed in his memory?

Meanwhile the Lincoln fans see Facey's shoulder injury in the latter part of the season as the reason they were relegated.

He missed 12 of Lincoln's games in League Two last term, games in which they earned only three points and saw fellow striker Ashley Grimes score no goals. Imps fansite theimps.ka wrote of Facey:

Delroy Facey turned from a player who most fans didn't want into a player who's impact was never more felt than when he was made captain during the spell when City looked safe and it was Facey's injury towards the end of the season which saw City's form go seriously downhill.

DCB Joins Worcester

Former Bulls striker Danny Carey-Bertram has joined Worcester City following his release from AFC Telford.

The former West Brom trainee scored 20 times in 81 appearances for the Bulls, half of which came off the subs bench, before spells at Forest Green and Cambridge United.

Now 27, Carey-Bertram found himself a peripheral figure in Andy Sinton's side over the past season after three years with the Bucks, but he now remains in Conf North with Worcester where he had a loan spell in 2009. He is expected to be a direct replacement for fellow forward Danny Glover, with the 20 goal striker leaving St Georges Lane for fellow Conf North side Nuneaton.

News Round-Up

Morecambe have announced the signing of Macclesfield defender Izak Reid on a two year deal. The 23 year old has played professionally for the Silkmen for the last five years and, if the two clubs cannot agree, a fee will be decided by a tribunal. Swindon have offered coach Paul Bodin an improved contract in the wake of Torquay's attempts to lure him to Plainmoor as Martin Ling's assistant.

Crewe striker Clayton Donaldson's agent has told the press Donaldson will not be staying in League Two. The Railwaymen, Crawley, and Bradford had all confirmed interest in the 26 goal forward, but he will play no lower than League One next term. Plymouth's Administrator has confirmed that Truro owner Kevin Heaney is advising the Irish consortium set to buy the club, but has no financial stake in the deal due to his involvement with the Conf South side.

Kettering's fans have voted in the majority to move to Rushden's Nene Park home if the Diamonds fold. A meeting last night was told that Nene Park owner Keith Cousins had already approached Poppies chairman Imraan Ladak about a move. The Poppies have just two years left on their current lease, with the owners wanting a substantial rent increase. Rushden have been accepted into the Zamaretto (Southern) League, providing they survive their winding up order currently slated for July 4th.
