No Barnet Bees for Dave

Former Hereford United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga (Dave) has said that he is not interested in a move to Barnet.

Diagouraga is out of favour at Peterborough who paid circa £200,000 for the Frenchman. Last season he went on loan to Brentford and it was thought he would sign for them if terms could be agreed.

However last week there was a report that Barnet were interested in him.

"I don't know where that's come from. I'm definitely not dropping down to League Two," said Dave.

Keyte speaks to BBC H&W

Hereford United's new chairman gave an interview to BBC Hereford and Worcester on Friday. Whilst parts of it have already been reported on BN, here's a 'fuller' version.

"Stories you hear about big losses, I wouldn't have stepped in something that was losing half a million a year, I don't think any fool would.

"That's not the case here.

"Through good housekeeping and all credit to Graham Turner and Joan Fennessy they have recorded six consecutive years of profits. Small profits but that together with the passion and opportunity I haven't jumped into venture and been unsuccessful.

"I lie - I've had a couple of race-horses that were pretty useless!

"I think quietly if we can get a few more people to come along on a Saturday, we'll do okay."

Keyle then talked about appointing a new manager at Edgar Street.

"We got the nod last Thursday that we had been successful with our bid. And now it becomes a reality so you set sail.

"There have been a number of applications in and a few recommendations. Good people don't always apply in football. And we've wittled that down to three.

"The one guy we are interested in is actually on holiday. We saw a second one last night and we've got one more to see on Tuesday. And we are going to appoint from that three.

"I have to say that the level is quite surprising - a tribute to Hereford United football club as an attractive proposition whether the people are in work or out.

"Two of these three are in management jobs.

"Players will be back in on the 1st of July or close to that and we will have some new players by then."

Asked about the board of directors, Keyte continued:

"I've met Grenville (Smith) whom I knew and the other guy is on holiday.

"We're starting on a basis where Tim and I have come in and we've invited them to stay on as directors.

"Then in the fullness of time we would like to add to the skills and invite people.

"I think there are some excellent people in Hereford who ought to be thinking I could do something for the club as well without the financial committent and we would welcome discussions with those sort of people.

"It wouldn't want to be a big number but we could probably add a couple of people."

News Round Up

Accrington have signed striker Craig Lindfield and defender Michael Hall on one year deals. Lindfield signs from Macclesfield after a loan spell with Stanley last season, while Hall comes from Blackburn's reserves. Bury have lost the services of midfielder Stephen Dawson after he opted to join Leyton Orient on a free transfer.

Oxford midfielder Adam Chapman has been jailed for 30 months after admitting causing death by dangerous driving. The 20 year old will have the club's support through his sentence. The U's have signed Huddersfield keeper Simon Eastwood on a free transfer. The 20 year old signs a two year deal. Stevenage have signed Salisbury winger Robbie Sinclair. The former Luton trainee started only 19 games for Salisbury last season.

Southend will need a new keeper after veteran Simon Royce turned down a new contract to be player and goalkeeper coach with Brentford.

Keyte expected to miss Malta AGM?

New Hereford United chairman, David Keyte, is expected to miss the Football League's AGM this weekend. The meeting will have probably come too soon for Keyte who was only installed in his new position yesterday.

According to Ciderspace - The Football League's Annual General Meeting and Summer Conference will take place over this weekend and early next week. The League's Chairmen and Chief Executives from each of the 72 clubs taking part in the 2010-11 season will be having their Summer Holiday Conference on the Mediterranean island of Malta between June 6th and June 8th at the Westin Dragonara Resort. These clearly are difficult economic times that the country's football clubs are having to work under.

The deal has been arranged in conjunction with the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), who in exchange will receive on-line advertising on all of the 82 official websites run under the PTV banner. Andy Williamson, Chief Operating Officer of The Football League has said of the plans to hold the AGM in Malta:

"We are delighted that this partnership enables us to hold our Summer Conference on the beautiful island of Malta. Taking our clubs away, through the support of the MTA, allows Chairmen and Chief Executives to focus on the important decisions facing the game today."

Three Year Deal for Pugh

Marc Pugh has signed a three year deal with Bournemouth but as yet no compensation has ben agreed between the club and his former employers Hereford United.

Cherries manager Eddie Howe is 'delighted' with the signing of the winger.

"Marc is someone we have liked for a long time and I thought he impressed in both games against us last season," Howe told the Bournemouth Daily Echo.

"We had him watched many times during the course of the season and he always did well.

"He is a wide midfield player and can play on either side. He scored 13 goals from midfield and that is an impressive record. We are hopeful he can continue that good form with us.

"I think there was always going to be interest in him because of how well he did last season. He was eye-catching in a good number of his displays."

Three Managerial Candidates

David Keyte has spoken further to the official site about the three man shortlist to be manager.

He tells them: "Two of them are currently in employment, current managers. One of them is in a higher league, one of them is lower, in the Conference, the third one is an interesting one, but he's not got a great deal of experience."

While the list of Conference managers with ambitions to manage in the League is only limited to the number of clubs in the Conference, and the two Holdsworth brothers at Mansfield and Newport respectively have previously been touted as candidates, the number of currently employed managers who could be coaxed down the divisions to the Bulls is likely to be limited.

Two current managers 'higher up' are expected to be released by their clubs following relegation. Championship Plymouth are expected to dispense with the services of Paul Mariner as soon as they have a new manager in place, while League One Stockport are expected to return to Jim Gannon - freeing up current incumbent Gary Ablett.

Now the rumours about the incoming shareholders have finished, it's now time for the jungle drums to start beating about the managerial appointment.

Keyte and Russon on BBC H&W

Both the new chairman, David Keyte (pictured), and vice-chairman, Tim Russon, of Hereford United have spoken to BBC H&W.

Firstly Keyte and his interest in the Bulls.

"It's a dream come true. We want fans to enjoy football. We want fans be proud of their club.

"Stories you hear about big losses, I wouldn't have stepped in something that was losing half a million a year, I don't think any fool would.

"That's not the case here.

"Through good housekeeping and all credit to Graham Turner and Joan Fennessy they have recorded six consecutive years of profit."

Then Tim Russon:

"I've always had a close affinity with the club. Seen some good times and some bad times down here. Brighton and the Walkers Stadium when they got promotion.

"That was magnificent - that would be in my top ten football games of all times.

"I've known Graham for thirty years and I just thought it was right to talk to Graham and everything has slotted into place. Amazingly it's worked out."

A few words from Ketye about a new manager.

"The one guy we are interested in is actually on holiday. We saw a second one last night and we've got one more to see on Tuesday. And we are going to appoint from that three."

Good Guys

Both the new Chairman and his Vice spoke very briefly to Bulls News following this afternoon’s press conference.

The Chairman appeared to be aware of the need to get the people of Hereford back on side. He seemed very approachable and happy to talk to parties interested in helping to take The Club forward. The business side of running the Club will be shared. Mr Keyte explained that he was an accountant who was well used to making decisions whereas Tim Russon’s communication skills will greatly help with the promotional side of the new Board’s work.

The Chairman has already scheduled a meeting with Kenny Lunt and hopes to talk to Ryan Green as soon as he returns from Italy.

The overall impression is that these are both sensible and fair-minded people who Bulls fans can confidently get behind.

More From The Press Conference

David Keyte talked of his past and the meeting of him and Tim Russon: "Hereford born and bred. Had a bit of a flirtation (with the club) when Colin Addison signed me on as a Cathedral schoolboy and didn't quite make it. 1963 my dad brought me here... it's like a dream come true for me. Living the dream.

"I've had a bit of luck in business, got a place out in Barbados. I got off a flight at the end of April, bought the Hereford Times and saw 'the Bulls up for sale' and I thought this is it. I visited my father in Tillington, walked through the door and asked him if he'd seen it - 'I said to your mother if David sees that... and if he's got any money left...'

"We (he and Tim Russon) got together in the last two months. We'd come at it from seperate angles. Joan Fennessey put us together. Delighted with the early workings. I'm an accountant, and will be continuing on the prudence that Graham (Turner) has set for this club. I might be the hard nose businessman, quiet but determined, but I think we've got a nice marriage here that Tim is the communication/TV guy that can get things moving to the community.

"This is no criticism of Graham and co, but we feel that there is an opening to perhaps get the football club back to the Hereford people in some fashion."

David Keyte Named As New Chairman

David Keyte has been named as the new Chairman of Hereford United at today's press conference.

Tim Russon is the new Vice Chairman.

Keyte was a footballer with the club's reserve side in the 1970's, and has up to this summer been principal at Bredon School, just outside of Tewkesbury. He has an interest in ID Sports, a sportswear firm based in Malvern.

Tim Russon spent several years as Head of Sport for ITV Central News South. His website offers his services currently as a film producer for promotional and broadcast work.

Speaking to the press conference, Keyte said they would be assisted by Joan Fennessey for a few weeks to aid the transition. They will continue the development of the Blackfriars End, with the completion not expected until the end of the 2010/11 season.

The managerial appointment will be their top priority. A new request for applications was made at the start of the week and a three man shortlist has been compiled from more than 30 applicants. They aim for a top ten finish for the coming season and are looking for a more experienced manager considering their own lack of experience in football.

The pair want to talk to the community and take on board ideas for the club. They are open to suggestions and offers of assistance.

Pugh Signs For Bournemouth

The Bournemouth Daily Echo is reporting that Marc Pugh has signed for the Cherries.

While no official club announcement has been made, the paper states that the League One new boys have signed Pugh and strikers Michael Symes and Steve Lovell after the Football League cleared the club's embargo.

With no official announcement there is no word on a fee for Pugh. He spent a year at Edgar Street after a loan spell from Shrewsbury making a total of 55 appearances for the Bulls, scoring 14 times.

With Symes' move to Dean Court, it is the third of last season's striker that Accrington have lost. The 27 year old former Shrewsbury man who, like Pugh, was let go by Paul Simpson last summer, scored 19 goals for Stanley after agreeing a one year deal.

Meanwhile the acceptance of Stockport's takeover has been delayed by another week. Key Football League personnel are out of the country at present and must sign off the deal in person to hand the club's 'Golden Share' to the new owners.

News Round Up

Torquay manager Paul Buckle and his backroom staff have agreed new contracts with the club. Morecambe have released reserve keeper Scott Davies as he wants regular first team football. Crewe have been given permission to speak to Peterboro defender Exodus Geohaghon. The Posh require a 'small fee' for the player.

Lincoln have named current vice chairman Bob Dorrian as their new chairman. He replaces Steff Wright, who has stepped down after five years. Rochdale have shut down their reserve side and will play friendlies with local sides instead. Burton say they cannot afford striker Steve Kabba, and the player will have to lower his wage expectations to join the club on a permanent basis.

Jimmy Harvey has signed a two year contract to stay on as manager of Stalybridge Celtic - and the club will go full time but with a lower budget that last term after averaging gates of less than 500.

The End Of An Era

This afternoon Hereford United supporters will, at last, find out who or whom has purchased the shares of both chairman Graham Turner and company secretary Joan Fennessy.

It's unlikely that either thought they would have spent so long at the club when they were appointed. For Graham Turner it will be close to 15 years, and for Mrs Fennessy 34 years, since their first days at Edgar Street.

In footballing terms to stay with one club for such long periods is virtually unheard of.

And it should be noted that they will leave with Hereford United still in business, still in League football, and still with supporters throughout the world.

The press conference is due to take place at 2pm when Turner will announce who is to be the new chairman and vice-chairman of the club. He will also make a 'final statement'.

Those supporters who subscribe to Bulls Player will be able to hear the proceedings from around 1.55pm.

Swansea Chase Mkandawire

Former Hereford United defender Tamika Mkandawire is wanted by Swansea City according to this is South Wales. In an earlier story today on BN he was linked with a move to Millwall.

Mkanawire is out of contract at Leyton Orient.

"We've offered Tam a contract and we would love him to stay at this club," said Orient boss Russell Slade.

"But it's become apparent that there are five or six clubs after him.

"It's a situation where Tam was not going to sign for another year for us.

"We're really disappointed at the loss as he's been a good servant to the club, but he wants Championship football."

The Cup Win at Dover

In the previous article on BN Graham Turner talked about the FA Cup win at Dover which probably helped save Hereford United from possible bankruptcy.

A young Gavin Williams scored the only goal of the game which this report of the game noted.

Gavin's goal puts Bulls through

Dover Athletic 0 - 1 Hereford United

Hereford United reached the first round of the FA Cup following a 1-0 win over Dover Athletic at the Crabble this afternoon.

Dover boss Gary Bellamy couldn't take his side through to the first round for the first time in eighteen years (since their reformation) as Phil Robinson's team worked hard for their win.

There was just one change to the line-up that beat Scarborough 6-0 last week with the on-loan defender Tony Capaldi dropped, through suspension, and replaced by Kristian James.

The game started in pretty even fashion with Ian Wright heading just over before Dover forced Matt Baker into a save after a mistake by Wright. Both sides went close in the early stages; John Snape hit an ambitious shot over and Baker was tested by a cross which he fumbled from the near side as Dover played from left to right. Chris Allen also went close from close range.

Jimmy Quiggin tested Phil Smith in the Dover goal after nineteen minutes when, following a superb long-range pass from Paul Parry, Quiggin controlled on an angled run before smashing an awkward drive at the goalkeeper. Jimmy Strouts hit a good effort high and wide seven minutes later, as the game was looking more and more likely if it was going to produce a goal.

It inevitably came on thirty two minutes thanks to the superb solo work of Hereford's young Welsh striker Gavin Williams. He picked up the ball just inside the Dover half, beat several defenders before smashing a low ball under goalkeeper Smith to put the travelling side into the driving seat.

Rob Elmes then had two possible chances to double the lead before the break, and a Gavin Williams effort went narrowly wide as Hereford threatened again.

The second half started more evenly with Dover captain Keith Scott, who has netted nine times already this season, hit a strong shot onto Matt Baker's crossbar following good work from Neil Le Bihan. Luckily, the ball rebounded to safety to the relief of the Hereford defence. Dover's ex-Nottingham Forest winger Chris Allen hit a shot just over the bar before limping off just after the hour.

On fifty seven minutes, Paul Parry cut inside with the ball and sent through an impressive cross to Gavin Williams. Williams' rising shot was pushed over by the goalkeeper and, from the corner, the Welshman hit a first time drive from the edge of the box which seriously tested the ability of goalkeeper Phil Smith.

Williams continued to threaten as Dover's defence was run ragged, but Hereford's back line didn't get away scot-free as Matt Baker had to clear up on several occasions after ill-judged decisions from defenders.

Substitute Scott Voice looked to add to Hereford's lead in the final minutes, knocking wide on two occasions. Then in the last minute, sub John Elliott hit narrowly wide as Dover searched for a replay.

The game was fairly evenly matched and well-refereed (and referees don't get credit very often!). Mr. Stoud allowed the game to flow under hard-fought but good-tempered conditions. A crowd of 1,221 watched the game with about 250 from Hereford.

Hereford progress to the first round proper where they take on Wrexham at Edgar Street, the game due to be staged on November 17th.

The Turning Point for Hereford United

Today's Hereford Times features a two page spread on the life and times of Graham Turner at Hereford United.

In one of the articles Turner explained just how close the club was to going out of business and then came a win at Dover in the FA Cup

"It was a very difficult period," said Turner.

"We were already in the CVA and we went over to Worcester to see the supervisor of the CVA to find out what the implications of full administration would be.

"It was not as straightforward then as it is now, there was no points deduction and you could go into a CVA without going into full administration.

"We were in a desperate position and the turning point was the game at Dover in the FA Cup.

"We won and in the draw immediately after the game we were drawn at home to Wrexham.

"We were quite excited by the draw - and then the BBC announcing that they were taking it. That was worth £100,000 to us and that turned the whole thing around.

"The three of us (Turner, Joan Fennessy and Ron Jukes) all had jobs here and we were paid for those jobs but we were about seven months behind with our wages which made life very difficult.

"It had reached the stage where, probably, on the Monday - if we had not won at Dover and things had not turned out right - my house would have been going on the market."

News Round Up

Port Vale are to give a trial to Nantwich defender Ritchie Sutton. The 24 year old was released by Crewe three years ago and has drifted around non-league. Accrington defender Darren Kempson has chosen to turn down a deal there and drop into the Conference with Grimsby on a two year deal. Stanley may also lose out of former keeper Kenny Arthur to the Mariners, with both clubs making the free agent an offer.

Bradford boss Peter Taylor has dismissed speculation linking him to the vacant Notts County job. Stockport's incoming owners have offered all the existing playing staff new one year deals, but the management team have not been spoken to. They currently have no friendlies lined up either. Rotherham intend to keep hold of striker Ryan Taylor despite interest from Exeter, where he spent a period on loan this term.

Gloucester have said they will have to charge £12 adult admission for their Conf North fixtures to cover the cost of ground sharing with Cheltenham. Lincoln's out of contract pair Steven Lennon and Brian Gilmour have both failed to agree to their new deals by the deadlines given by the club. Morecambe are hoping to sign loan striker Phil Jevons on a permanent basis following his release from Huddersfield.

Millwall have confirmed they are in talks with Tamika Mkandawire about a move to the new Championship club. Yeovil are to undergo a restructuring of the company so that the ground is held by a seperate company than the club itself. An official statement says the move is necessary to 'raise capital'. Southend have admitted they have failed to pay their wage bill for May on time. They say the money was delayed and will be paid in due course. They also state that they will be making some redundancies, with up to 10% of their current workforce likely to be cut.

Torquay have announced the signing of striker Billy Kee on a two year deal. The 19 year old scored nine times in 15 starts and 22 sub appearances for Accrington last term. Rotherham have released Mark Lynch and Marc Joseph in addition to the six released yesterday. Lynch played at Wembley, but Joseph hadn't featured for the first team for two months.

9am Release of New Fixture List

Next season's fixtures for Hereford United will be released at the earlier time of 9.00am on Thursday June 17th, not 10am as reported elsewhere.

The Press Association has decided to bring forward the timimg of the release of the lists, which cover all the main divisions.

Media outlets will receive the details around 7.30am to enable them to 'formulate' the lists ready for publishing at 9.00am.

"Football has received many representations from news organisations seeking an earlier release time and an earlier embargo time to suit publishing deadlines and internet news services," said David Folker, General Manager of Football DataCo Ltd, the licencing company that governs the release of football fixtures.

"So, after an extensive internal review, football has agreed to pull the start of the delivery of the fixtures forward to 7.30am and, consequently the time of the embargo from 10.00am to 9.00am. Football sees this as a positive move in an increasingly news-hungry world which we hope will be approved of by its many fans."

HMRC To Sue Premier League

The taxman is suing the Premier League in a bid to remove the preferential status of football creditors.

HMRC are seeking a legal ruling that the League's 'Football Creditors Rule' is unlawful and can no longer be applied. Since their own preferential status was removed in 2003 the taxman has routinely voted against CVA agreements across football in protest at footballing creditors receiving preference under the individual leagues rules.

Should the taxman be successful against the Premier League, the Football League and Conference will almost automatically have to fall into line - meaning that clubs will no longer have a guarantee of payment should another side go bust. It also means that sides would be more likely to fold and reform at a lower level.

With the Government on an economy drive, the taxman stands to lose 80% of their claim against Portsmouth - up to £28million - if the CVA is passed and cannot allow such losses to be repeated with other Premier and Championship sides said to be in debt to similar levels. A spokesman told Accountancy Age magazine:

"HMRC‘s view is that there is nothing in insolvency legislation that provides for unsecured debts due to “football creditors” to be paid in preference to other unsecured creditors such as HMRC.

"Our view is that the practical application of the so called 'Football Creditors Rule' may be unlawful. We have nothing further to add at this stage."

Young Out At Watford

Former Bull Lewis Young has become the sixth of this seasons loanees to be released by their parent clubs.

Young, who played six times for the Bulls over a month, joins Jonny Godsmark, Tristan Plummer, Mark Marshall, James Walker, and Astrit Ajdarevic in being released this summer.

Meanwhile one ex-Bull not leaving Watford is John Eustace. It was reported earlier that he had been poached by Leeds, but Watford have triumphantly announced that he has signed a new two year deal with the club this afternoon.

FL Make Sponsor Changes

The Football League has unveiled their new npower branded logos, and announced a new partner sponsor.

npower will sponsor the League for the next three seasons in a £21million deal.

Today, the League also announced Coral as the new betting partner in place of bet365. Coral had made a more lucrative bid than npower for the title sponsorship, but the League questioned the suitability of having a bookmaker as main sponsor.

Coral's deal begins on July 1st, and will last for three seasons.

Bulls Call Press Conference

Hereford United have called a press conference for Friday afternoon to unveil the new Chairman and Vice Chairman.

No further details have currently been released, but it will bring to an end a sustained period of uncertainty at the club since Graham Turner announced his decision to sell his shares on April 16th.

In the seven weeks since a plethora of groups, often the same names in different combinations, have been put as potential purchasers of the club. The list of rumoured buyers has included a slew of ex-players, at least one former manager, and assorted media personalities and former directors and chairmen at other clubs.

The only thing thats Turner has promised from the sale is that a decision would be made 'for sound footballing reasons' and that the new people would make the supporters happy.

UPDATE: Worcester News report that the press conference will be at 2pm.

News Round Up

Former Bulls loanee John Eustace is claimed to be on the verge of signing for Leeds after snubbing a new contract with Watford. Hornets boss Malky Mackay told the press they had agreed a deal, but Leeds pounced at the last minute. Lincoln have announced the signing of former loanee striker Drewe Broughton from Rotherham on a one year deal. He played seven times without scoring for the Imps in a two month spell last term.

Oxford have confirmed the signing of striker Matt Green on a permanent deal from Torquay. A small fee is involved. Shrewsbury will announce their new manager in the next '10-14 days' according to an official announcement. Cheltenham have signed Forest Green's groundsman, who had previously been named groundsman of the year in the Conference.

Barnet have released ten more players now that they have appointed a new manager. Among them are 41 year old striker Paul Furlong and club captain Micah Hyde, 35. They bring the total departures from Underhill to 14. Cheltenham have had to cancel a proposed pre-season trip to Germany due to a lack of funds. Chris Hargreaves has turned down the manager's job at Tiverton and is mulling over other offers.

Scunthorpe have signed out-of-contract Rochdale striker Chris Dagnall to a three-year deal with an option for a further year. He scored 60 goals in around 170 appearances for the Spotland club. Rotherham have released six players following their play-off failure. The highest profile casualty is Pablo Mills, who played 40 times for the club this term.

Wycombe are expected to sign out of contract Aldershot man Scott Donnolly. They had a bid turned down for him in January shortly after Gary Waddock made the same switch.

Bulls Confirm Third Friendly

Hereford United have confirmed a trip to Lydbrook Athletic on July 22nd.

It is the first away trip confirmed, with Lydbrook using the game to open their new changing rooms. The confirmed pre-season schedule currently reads:

  • H - Swansea City Tues 13th July 7.30pm
  • H - Swindon Town Fri 16th July 7.45pm
  • A - Lydbrook Athletic Thurs 22nd July 7.00pm

Season Tickets – Buy now?

With an emergency budget from new Chancellor George Osborne due on Tuesday 22nd June and the possibility of a rise in VAT, Bulls' fans may be well advised to invest in their Edgar Street season tickets sooner rather than later.

VAT is charged on purchases at the time of buying so any sales completed before a tax change will be protected from any increase in admission costs.

Barnet Name Stimson As Boss

Barnet have named Mark Stimson as their new manager.

He will be assisted at Underhill by his regular no.2 Scott Barrett, who has followed Stimson around from Grays, through Stevenage, and more recently at Gillingham. They will form a three-man management team with recent coaching addition Michael Stone, with Paul Fairclough overseeing their Hive training facility and coaching the under 18's.

Chairman Tony Kleanthous told their official site: "Because of all the investment we need to push for promotion next season". They finished last season with just three wins in 15 games to finish just four points clear of the drop zone, and are currently 100/1 to win the division and 16/1 to win promotion.

Meanwhile Crystal Palace are reported to be safe after a later than last-minute deal on the ground between the CPFC2010 group and Bank of Scotland over Selhurst Park.

Bulls Now 60/1 As Bantams/Gills Head Betting

With more bookies releasing prices for the 2010/11 season, some have already started cutting odds.

Gillingham are now down to 10/1 from 11/1 favourites, while Bradford have been cut from 14/1 to 12/1 second favourites with Northampton and Wycombe both drifting from that figure. Newcomers Stevenage are also attracting early interest, coming into 16/1 from 18/1.

The Bulls are now available at 60/1 with Victor Chandler. Accrington are now 100/1 after starting on Sunday evening at 40/1, while Cheltenham are out to 55/1 and Lincoln 50/1.

Lunt "Still waiting"

Speaking to Bulls News today, the Bulls playmaker has confirmed that he is still open to the possibility of remaining at Edgar Street for the coming season.

"My offer was originally on the table until the end of May."

"I've had contact with a couple of other clubs but I don't want to make a decision until I know what is happening with the ownership and who is going to be the manager. It's not just about money, the offer was fair but I want to know a bit more about how things will be run and who's involved."

"I'm still happy to play for Hereford if the situation is right for me."

Lunt Announcement Expected

With the deadline for Kenny Lunt to sign his new deal at Edgar Street now passed, an announcement from the club is now expected.

Lunt had until the end of May to accept the deal on the table but Crewe boss Dario Gradi has admitted speaking to his former charge, telling The Sentinel:

"Kenny is available and would like to come back, but my budget is tight and I already have Lee (Bell), Ashley Westwood and Luke Murphy for the central midfield roles.

"Perhaps it’s stupid of me not to take the opportunity of bringing in a good player like Kenny when he is free, but he really would be a luxury we can't afford."

Meanwhile another of last season's loanees has been released by his club. Winger Mark Marshall has been let go by Swindon following their play-off defeat at the weekend. He played ten times for the Bulls at the end of 2009, but took another three months afterwards before he made another appearance for the Robins.

News Round Up

Middlesboro are claimed to be front runners to sign Gary Hooper from Scunthorpe. Sunday papers reported that he has been given a tour of their facilities. Millwall are ready to make a move for Tamika Mkandawire, with the defender considering a new deal at Leyton Orient. Chris Hargreaves has held talks with Tiverton Town over their vacant managerial job. He has also been approached by an unnamed Conference side about a player-manager role.

Gillingham want to sign former loanee Darren Dennehy and are waiting on an answer from Cardiff whether it can be a loan or permanent signing. Stevenage manager Graham Westley has signed a new two year deal with the club. The club have also agreed a two year deal with released Mansfield defender Luke Foster.

Press reports say that the Conference are to amend their 'Appendix E' rule that has seen Salisbury and Northwich thrown out for failing to pay creditors. The amendment is said to give sides three years to pay off debts rather than the current end of season deadline. Macclesfield have reported that their ground was broken into twice over the weekend, with thieves smashing windows and stealing stock from the bar and power tools from the groundsman's shed.

Crewe have confirmed talks with an unnamed central defender that will cost them a fee. They have previously been linked with Peterboro's Exodus Geohaghon. They are also to give a trial to released Bolton full back Chris Stokes, 19.
