Pitman gives out Awards at Hay

Hereford United coach Jamie Pitman travelled across the border to give out the awards at Hay St Marys end of season funday this morning.

Kiddy Record 'Lowest Ever' ST Sales

Kidderminster have reported their 'worst ever' season ticket sales, causing them to re-evaluate their squad budget for the coming season.

Chairman Barry Norgrove told the Kidderminster Shuttle: "I couldn't believe it when I saw that we had only sold around 350 season tickets, it's the lowest amount ever at this stage of the summer. It puts a massive hole in our budget and means we will have to assess the amount of money that we'll be able to give the manager. It is difficult out there and people are saying that they don't have the money to spend."

His words echo the sentiment across the lower divisions, with many clubs cutting budgets and financial experts predicting further falls in attendances during the coming season.

News Round Up

Southend have admitted that they will consider offers for all their players after captain Adam Barrett became the second player in a week to submit a written transfer request. The club say that 95% of their staff have received May's wages but that, with some players still on Championship level wages, they will consider offers to get the wage bill down.

Rotherham are reported to have signed Bury defender Ryan Cresswell on a three year deal after he rejected overtures from Oxford and Crewe. Chesterfield are reported to be chasing released Barnsley defender Rob Kozluk and former Grimsby defender Simon Ford. They are also claimed to be ready to offload contracted duo Martin Gritton and Rob Page.

Newport boss Dean Holdsworth has signed a new two year deal with the club. He told the press he had 'three or four' League sides wanting to talk to him this summer, but his new deal will now mean that compensation will have to be agreed with the club. Former Torquay manager Lubos Kubik, who took the Gulls out of the League, is one of the coaches looking to help the USA beat England later today.

Stockport's incoming owners, the 2015 consortium, say they hope to conclude the deal in the next week. Cheltenham have recruited their former goalkeeper Steve Book to be their part-time keeper coach. He has spent the last five years coaching with Bristol Rovers. Torquay's hopes of signing former loanee keeper Michael Poke have ended after he signed for Brighton instead.

Former Bulls keeper Chris Mackenzie has left Ilkeston and joined up with Phil Gulliver at ambitious Corby Town.

Turner Arrives At Edgar Street

Over the next few weeks BN will look back at the life and times of Graham Turner at Edgar Street season by season. For today's article we look back at 1995/96.

Graham Turner was appointed manager of Hereford United in early August 1995. He took over from Dick Bates, who had been in temporary charge since John Layton had left a month earlier.

Out of work since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers 18 months earlier, Turner had applied for several posts, including Ipswich and Notts County, but had not been successful. Eventually he arrived in Herefordshire. How much he was told about the state of finances at his new club is open to debate, but his budget would be minute compared to what he had been used to at both Wolves and before then at Aston Villa.

To make matters worse, two of Hereford's top players had been sold in the months proceeding Turner's appointment. 19 year old Andrew Browning had moved to Norwich in the previous March for £100,000 and then in June Gareth Davies moved to Crytal Palace for £120,000.

Nevertheless Turner had a good start as the Bulls won their first League match of the season, a 4-1 hammering of Barnet. The game is remembered in particular for a goal by keeper Chris MacKenzie whose clearance went over the head of the Bees' keeper Maik Taylor. However just three days later the Bulls lost a Carling Cup game against Oxford.

Off the pitch troubles continued. In the first week of October the club was hit by a suspected arson attack, which destroyed the supporters' club and part of the main stand. On the following Friday night the club was burgled. At least the Bulls won the following day's match against Torquay when Richard Wilkins scored a 90th-minute winner.

By the end of November the club were 16th in the League. Just 3,528 had turned out for a 'local' derby against Cardiff City which the Bulls lost 3-1 and that was the highest gate to date that season.

However before Xmas the Bulls finally shook off their poor form with a surprising 3-0 victory over Scunthorpe at Edgar Street. It couldn't have come at a better time considering they had been drawn against a top class side in the third round of the FA Cup.

Two home games in the early rounds had produced victories over Stevenage and Sutton respectively. Next were Spurs.

It seemed most of the British Press wanted to interview Turner in the first week of January 1996 and he seemed pleased to talk to them. He appeared happy to be living in Herefordshire. A few words from the Independent:

Turner's wife and children now live in a rented house on a working farm, and enjoy "a good quality of life". While describing Hereford as "a lovely city to work in", he still hopes to take charge of a big club again and, at 48, has time to do so.

He also has an answer for those who might argue that fulfilling his ambitions would mean betraying Hereford. "They asked me if I was going to use this place as a stepping stone, and the answer was yes," Turner admits. "But to get myself back up higher I've got to do a good job here first."

What about the game itself?

"I've done it before, when I was at Shrewsbury, and then we reached the quarter-finals twice, beating Malcolm Allison's Manchester City and Bobby Robson's Ipswich on the way," Turner told the Daily Mail.

"I wanted them to relax, not be uptight. They will need to be if they are to play above themselves."

The game at Edgar Street was drawn 1-1 and the replay was to be eleven days later. In between Turner steered the Bulls to two useful victories firstly against Northampton and then a 5-2 victory over Cambridge. But at Spurs they were outplayed and lost 5-1.

During February the Bulls dropped to 19th position. Turner decided to try and bring a couple of extra players in to boost the squad. Jamie Pitman arrived from Swindon, Stuart Watkiss from Walsall and Chris Hargraves from West Bromwich initially on loan.

It worked as towards the end of the season the Bulls produced a run of form which took then into the play-offs.

On March 2nd Tony James, who had been out for a year with a knee injury, was drafted back into the side and scored the winning goal against Northampton in the 90th minute.

"I'm delighted for Tony, but these late winners are doing nothing for my heart," said Turner.

Then in April a remarkable run of form, eight wins in ten games, pushed the Bulls towards a play-off place, and on May 4th a 2-0 defeat of Rochdale, in front of 5880 spectators, secured that place.

However the Bulls couldn't defeat Darlington in either of the play-offs so would remain in Division Three for another season.

On reflection not a bad start for Graham Turner at Edgar Street. Sixth in the League, two third round FA Cup games against Spurs, and a run in the Auto Windsreen Shield until defeat by Shrewsbury.

Turner Talks to BBC Shropshire

Former Hereford United manager Graham Turner has said he has several players in mind he would like to bring to the Greenhous.

Although he admitted he didn't know all the current players, he was aware that Shrewsbury needed a striker and also more pace in the squad.

However firstly in an interview with BBC Radio Shropshire, he spoke about his new club.

"The appeal of good facilities here, ambition about the club, the wherewithall to support that ambition gives me an opportunity to take the club forward.

"You look around the facilities here, the ground itself and so on - I've no reason to beleive we couldn't get in there (the Championship)

"I'm optimistic about the future of the club. It's certainly big enough to go forward, big enough to maintain a first division club, then who knows.

"I think the expectation of supporters now I've come back will be great. Having said that I'm ambitious. It could well be my last job and I want to finish my career with some success."

Reminded he will need some new players Turner continued:

"There are several players we've already talked about. It is obvious from the end of last season we need a striker and we also need some pace.

"I've already talked to a couple of players. There should be some positive announcements shortly."

Turner welcomed at Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury chairman Roland Wycherley has commented on the appointment of former Hereford United manager at the Greenhous Stadium.

"I'm delighted that Graham is back at the club where he had a prolific career as a player and enjoyed his first taste of success as a manager. We can now enter the new season with confidence, and I'm sure our fans will look forward to this year's campaign with renewed optimism."

Meanwhile Turner appears pleased to have gone back up the A49.

"It's great to be back where I started out all those years ago, and I have fond memories of my previous spell here. I'm looking forward to getting started and will be doing all I can to bring success to the football club."

News Round Up

Cheltenham have signed released Bournemouth striker Jeff Goulding on a one year contract. The 26 year old has a proven record at Conference South level, but managed just four goals in 44 appearances for the Cherries. He replaces Justin Richards, with Port Vale signing their 15 goal top scorer on a two year contract. The Valiants are to also give a trial to former Brighton striker Sam Gargan, who scored 17 times for Sutton Utd last term.

Torquay still hope to sign Burton defender Guy Branston on a permanent basis this summer after his successful loan spell last term. So far the two clubs and player have not reached agreement over the final year of his contract with the Brewers. Gillingham have rejected two bids for striker Simeon Jackson already this summer. Boss Andy Hessenthaler also wants to sign defender Matt Fish from former club Dover, where the player is out of contract.

Cheltenham's accounts for the 08/09 season show a loss of £825,000, with the auditors saying they "significant doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern". Chairman Paul Baker says losses for the 09/10 season will be significantly less. The local press reports that the club is £50,000 down on season ticket sales on this time last year, and that their playing budget has been cut for the coming season.

Forest Green's place in the Conference next season has been confirmed after Salisbury's appeal to the FA was rejected. They will now be put into the Southern League. Northwich's appeal on similar grounds was also rejected, and they will go into the Northern Premier.

Bulls Widen Manager Search

The Bulls have widened the search for a new manager after new applicants threw their names into the hat.

Speaking to the official site, David Keyte said that: "Originally we drew up a short list of three but now the sheer quality of applications has forced us to extend it"

Yesterday, the Hereford Times said that the successful applicant had been selected but this has now been quashed. Former Hull manager Phil Brown spoke to 5live yesterday, saying he would be interested in any managerial job - including League Two - fuelling more rumours.

Turner Confirmed As Shrews Boss

Graham Turner has signed a three year deal to be manager of Shrewsbury Town.

The deal also includes an option on a further year as Director of Football, the title he originally held with the Bulls. It is currently unclear whether the stadium will again be renamed, this time to the 'Graham Turner Retirement Greenhous(e)'.

Green Comments on New Deal

Ryan Green has given a few comments to the Hereford Times on completion of his new one year deal at Edgar Street and also denied any approach from Newport County.

"The new owners have good ambitions and I want to be competing for things and they seem like good footballing people," said Green.

"I was a bit worried about signing before a new manager was in place, But after speaking to the chairman I am very positive about next season.

"I have never spoken to anyone from Newport County. Perhaps because I am from Cardiff people started to make a link with County."

BBC Expect Turner Appointment

The worst kept secret in English football is out in the open with even the BBC now acknowledging that Graham Turner will be named as Shrewsbury's new boss tomorrow.

The BBC reports that 'BBC Radio Shropshire understand Turner, 62, will take up the post with a young coaching team under him.'

He left Shrewsbury back in 1984 after nearly six seasons, guiding them into what is now the Championship and holding their place in the second tier until he opted for the bright lights of Aston Villa.

News Round Up

The Football League are expected to introuduce tougher sanctions against insolvent clubs despite Barry Hearn's two-division drop being voted out at the AGM. Oldham's Alan Hardy has told their official site that he expects tougher rules to be brought in as early as August: "The feeling amongst clubs is that the current sanction of a 10-point penalty is not strong enough. There was a thought that we could end up with an automatic one-division relegation which, obviously, could still end up a two division drop if that club were also to finish in the relegation places that season."

Rotherham have signed former loanee Marcus Marshall on a two year deal from Blackburn. The 20 year old spent the second half of the season on loan with the Millers, making 23 appearances. Former Bulls keeper Ryan Esson has signed a new two year deal with Inverness after they won promotion back to the SPL last term. Darlington have already sold 800 season tickets for their return to the Conference. They sold 1,000 last season.

Macclesfield say they released first choice keeper Jon Brain as they could not meet his demands for a new contract, both in terms of finances and contract length. Cardiff have settled their tax debt, leaving their impending court date as a formality. Accrington will have to take note of the new FL rules on filing accounts on time. They have been late with their last two seasons accounts, and would now get a transfer embargo for it.

Burton have handed defender Ryan Austin a short term contract. He has not played since November due to a cruciate knee ligament injury, with the contract giving him the chance to prove his fitness and earn a longer deal. Cambridge have received a cash boost after the new owners of their Abbey Stadium announced that they would cut the rent significantly for the next three years. The new owners have also announced plans to move the club to a new stadium within ten years.

Stevenage defender Michael Bostwick has signed a new two year deal with the club despite having firm offers from two League One sides. The club admit to having had talks with two sides over a transfer fee.

New Manager Selected

Today's Hereford Times reports that the Bulls have now selected their new manager from their three man shortlist.

The man is currently in employment and it could take 10 days to tie up a deal. The decision means that the successful applicant is currently in work in one of the top five divisions, according to the interviews given over the past week.

Speculation continues to put a link between Tim Russon's days covering Oxford and Swindon for Central and some of their former players and managers who fit the bill.

Current Hull assistant boss Brian Horton, an Oxford manager for five years, his former player Martin Foyle, the current York boss, and former Swindon man Martin Ling, currently at Cambridge, are all considered strong candidates.

Conference Manager 'Not Holdsworth'

'Highly-placed' sources at Conference club Newport County have told the South Wales Argus that rumours about manager Dean Holdsworth being one of the three candidates for a similar job at Hereford United are without substance.

Holdsworth has one year left on his contract at Spytty Park. However the club admits that it wants to reach a new deal with Holdsworth as currently it doesn't not contain a clause which would maximise any compensation should Holdsworth leave for another club.

Holdsworth is currently on holiday according to the paper.

Decent Backbone for New Manager says Keyte

Having agreed new deals for both Ryan Green and Kenny Lunt in the last two days, Hereford United chairman David Keyte has said that the squad is beginning to take shape.

And he appears hopeful of further deals for two more defenders.

"Richard Rose is away on holiday at the moment and I have spoken to Darren Jones’ agent," Keyte told the Hereford Times.

"There is a decent backbone which the incoming manager will have."

Keyte spoke about his first few days in charge at Edgar Street.

"It has been an enjoyable start and we have had a lot of messages and calls from well-wishers.

"I had a message from a person from Bromsgrove who had found out from his mother in Barbados.

"I also had a message from a chap who said he would be getting a season ticket for the first time in around 10 years."

Finally Keyte confirmed that there will be a tribunal over the fee for Mark Pugh.

"There will be a tribunal over the fee for Marc Pugh because he’s under-24 and the fee offered by Bournemouth was not enough."

Lunt Signs New Contract

Hereford United have confirmed that Kenny Lunt has signed a new one year deal with the club.

The former Crewe and Sheff Weds midfielder played 50 times for the Bulls last term, triggering a clause in his deal for another year that Graham Turner renegotiated.

He becomes the seventh player to sign on for next season while Darren Jones, who is currently on holiday, has also expressed an interest in staying to the official website: "I've had a few messages from the new chairman, and whilst I'm away my agent is in talks. I'll contact the club as soon as I get back, I'm happy to sign a deal as long as it's right for me and my family."

Bulls Go To Ledbury

The Bulls will travel to Ledbury Town in their fifth pre-season match to be announced.

The Saturday July 10th game will kick off at 3pm. The Bulls last visited Ledbury in the 2008/9 pre-season, winning 10-0. Only Richard Rose remains with the club from the 22 players fielded that day. Fans will doubtless be looking forward to a repeat of the successful spit-roasting. The schedule now reads:

  • Saturday July 10th (A) Ledbury Town
  • Tuesday July 13th (H) Swansea City
  • Friday July 16th (H) Swindon Town
  • Tuesday July 20th (A) AFC Telford
  • Thursday July 22nd (A) Lydbrook Athletic

At least two more friendlies are expected to be announced with the new season starting on August 7th.

Slops call Press Conference

Shrewsbury Town have called a press conference for 10.00 am this Friday to announce the name of their new manager.

News Round Up

Rotherham are claimed to be chasing released Hartlepool midfielder Ritchie Jones. The 23 year old former Man Utd trainee was deemed 'inconsistent' during his two year spell with the monkey hangers. Gillingham have announced that assistant manager Mark Robson has left the club for personal reasons after less than a month in the job. He was previously a coach under former Gills manager Mark Stimson.

Bradford have denied they are about to be taken over. Joint owners Mark Lawn and Julian Rhodes say they will sell the club for what they paid for it if a new investor can put more into the club than they can. Northampton want to resign loan midfielder John Johnson after a successful spell last season, but they will have to wait until late into pre-season as parent club Middlesboro want to assess the player first.

Cheltenham striker Justin Richards says he is interested in a move to Port Vale after his agent held talks with the Valiants. Richards is out of contract at Whaddon Road, but a new one year deal has been offered. Oldham have named former Leicester striker Paul Dickov as their new player-manager on a one year deal.

Oxford have signed released Barnsley midfielder Simon Heslop on a three year deal. The 23 year old has had seven loan spells with various League Two and Conference sides. Burton have confirmed an interest in departing Crewe keeper Adam Legzdins and Partick stopper Jonny Tuffey.

BBC Hereford & Worcester

The local BBC radio station is looking for anyone (preferably a Bulls fan) who is making the trip to South Africa to watch any of the games in the World Cup.

Bulls News understands this is to help with a short feature to be broadcast later this week. Anyone able to help and willing to do a quick telephone interview should contact the BBC at their Hereford studio on 01432 355255.

Good Start For New Regime

It's not even a week since the 'new' regime took over at Hereford United but there are already signs that the club is to be steered in a more supporter-friendly manner.

And the news that Ryan Green has agreed another one year deal, with Darren Jones expected to follow, has helped to lift spirits around Edgar Street and beyond.

Kenny Lunt is due to speak to the new chairman, David Keyte, today and it's now seems quite likely that he will also agree a new deal.

A new manager will be appointed this week and possibly a coach as well.

Keyte has also said he is hopeful of having an open day just before the start of the new season and a fans forum, possibly in September. It's over three years since events like this took place.

The message from Edgar Street has changed. Graham Turner once said if we lose a few supporters so what. David Keyte wants to get as many fans back onside as soon as possible.

There is a long way to go for Keyte and his vice-chairman Tim Russon, but judging on the words and action from them so far, they've had a good start.

And perhaps one way supporters could give them a vote of confidence would be by considering an early purchase of a season ticket.

From the Archives - A New Board at Edgar Street

With the recent changes at board level at Edgar Street, it's timely to look back to June 1998 when Peter Hill announced he was stepping down as chairman of Hereford United and then failed to attend the AGM.

At the AGM of Hereford United FC on the evening of 29th June, all current directors stood down and were replaced by Graham Turner and 3 new directors reports HUISA. The shares transfer from Peter Hill to Turner was made by a legally binding document to be timed at the close of the AGM.

A very well attended AGM comprising of over 50 shareholders was conducted at times in a 'heated' atmosphere, concentrating on the terms of the Joint Venture Agreement made with the BS Group. The accounts covered the period to the end of May 1997, during which time the JVA was made. The meeting was chaired by David Vaughan in the absence of Peter Hill who was on 'holiday' again. Hill's failure to attend the meeting was met with derision and a series of complaints from the floor of the meeting. This left shareholders in no doubt that Hill was hiding away from his critics and was leaving the rump of his board behind to answer for his actions. Vaughan was therefore subjected to a catalogue of questions relating to the operation of the Football Club and the manner in which former managing director Robin Fry had appeared to have been paid off following the receipt of the original BS Group loan. A fierce debate ensued surrounding the conduct of the directors over the handling of the 'gift' of the Edgar Street lease to the BS Group. During this questioning David Vaughan and Jane Simmons confirmed that they were 'retiring' from the board. Confirmation was also received that Keith Benjamin had resigned from his 'role' as Associate Director the previous November.

Analysis of the accounts revealed that Robin Fry's company was paid £34,412 for consultancy fees' for the year ended 31st May 1997. and that an Edinburgh based consultants (Intervec) were also paid £30,000 for consultancy fees' connected to the proposed relocation of HUFC. The accounts also confirmed HUISA's fears that the leases on Edgar Street expire on 10 August 2015 and 12 August 2057 but that the original BS Group loan of £500,000 plus accrued interest remains repayable on 31 May 1999. The second loan of £500,000 is interest free, repayable on 19th May 2003. Despite all of the objections before the meeting closed Vaughan even had the temerity to state that he was 'satisfied' with his own personal record as a director of Hereford United FC and that of the rest of the Board!

GT stated on the night that his new directors are, Sam Lodh (Solicitor, and HUISA confidante), Tristram Richmond-Sterry (Solicitor, and HUISA member) and Joan Fennessy (Club Secretary). George Hyde was invited to join the board by GT after the AGM and Ron Jukes (Club Scout) joined a fortnight later.

£21,250 for Macmillan from Bulls News

Bulls News is pleased to report that £21,250 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support from the car park it operated at the recent Hay Festival.

We would like to thank all those who parked with us, the youngsters who helped run the car park, and the continued support of the NFU Mutual.

Over the past five years BN has helped raise over £75,000 for Macmillan, much of which has gone to help fund the new facilities at Hereford Hospital.

FL Honour Joan

The Football League have honoured the departing Joan Fennessey at their AGM in Malta.

She was one of three people honoured at the event, with her impending departure after 34 years seeing a long service award being made.

The AGM also saw a number of rule changes.

Clubs will now be required to lodge their accounts with the FL at the same time as they are required by Companies House. Failure to comply will result in a transfer embargo. Administration rules have also been amended to specifically include clubs, like Southampton, that went into Administration as part of a bigger group of companies.

Leyton Orient chairman Barry Hearn has his proposal of automatic demotion by two divisions for any side entering Administration voted out, but the FL have undertaken to review their rules and penalties. The 'Fit and proper persons test' has been renamed the 'Director's Test'.

Clubs will also only be allowed 25 players over the age of 21, ten of which must be 'home grown' - having spent three seasons playing domestically prior to the 21st birthday. No restriction are placed on the number of players under 21.

The 'home grown' rule would not affect the Bulls if last season's squad was taken into account. Of the contracted players over 21 only Edrissa Sonko would not have been classed as 'home grown'.

Green signs for another year

Classy defender Ryan Green has agreed and signed a new contract at Edgar Street for the coming season.

The 29 year-old former Welsh International is in his second spell with the Club following a short stay at Bristol Rovers. He has made a total of 143 appearances for the Bulls, scoring five times including the play-off final winner at the Walkers Stadium.

Managerial Discussions Today

The Bulls will make another step towards naming their new manager today.

With the third candidate for the job now back in the country, the new board will be mulling over their choices with an appointment likely before the weekend. Fans have been speculating about the identities of the three challengers since last Friday's press conference revealed details of the applicants.

The man currently employed at a higher level has been variously claimed to be Lennie Lawrence, Paul Mariner, Gary Ablett, and Brian Horton. The Conference manager is rumoured to be either Cambridge's Martin Ling, one of the Holdsworth brothers at Newport and Mansfield, or York's Martin Foyle, while the rookie boss has provided a wide collection of ex-internationals from Dennis Bergkamp to ex-Bull Steve Bull.

With the expression of needing an experienced man at the helm several of the names mentioned appear to be ruled out, while Tim Russon's links to Midlands sport lead some to suggesting the ex-Oxford manager Brian Horton, and Horton's former player there Martin Foyle, could be front-runners.

News Round Up

Southend are facing a player exodus after the again failed to pay the players on time. Keeper Steve Mildenhall is reported to have now submitted a transfer request while the local press reports that five others are considering their futures after they were given no warning their wages would not arrive on time. The club remains under a transfer embargo due to owing the PFA for a loan to cover wages earlier in the season.

Macclesfield want a new stadium as part of a long term redevelopment of the town. The local council has already announced a major redevelopment plan and the club want to be part of it, saying they are constrained by their current Moss Rose site. Lincoln's new chairman Bob Dorrian has told players to 'stop living in the past' over the wage demands for the club's transfer targets, warning them they will not get their demands in League Two.

Gillingham have confirmed they have signed striker Dennis Oli to a new two year deal. He is their 17th contracted player for next season. Accrington have missed out on goalkeeper Kenny Arthur after he opted to join Grimsby instead. Lincoln have lost the services of keeper Rob Burch after he signed a two year deal with Notts County.

MP Welcomes New Faces

Hereford MP Jesse Norman has welcomed the arrival at the club of the new Chairman and Vice Chairman, giving us this statement:

Hereford's Member of Parliament and avid Bulls fan Jesse Norman has welcomed the appointment of local businessman David Keyte as Chairman and TV personality Tim Russon as Vice-Chairman.

Mr Keyte’s successful bid for the club was announced on Friday after more than a decade of ownership led by Chairman Graham Turner and Joan Fennessey, the Company Secretary.

Jesse said: “Graham and Joan’s combined service to the club amounts to nearly 50 years, which is unheard of in today’s topsy-turvy world of football.

"Along with Bulls supporters everywhere, I want to pay tribute to their dedication and hard work to ensure the survival and success of the club. Thanks to their efforts, we now have a club which has enjoyed six years' consecutive profits, with a new stand in prospect.

Jesse added: “Supporters were understandably a little apprehensive about the possible change of ownership. But the reaction has been very positive so far, reflecting the local view that Tim Russon and David Keyte are genuine ‘football people’.

"I am particularly enthused by their vision to integrate the club more with the local community and will do everything I can to assist. I look forward to meeting the new management team very shortly.”

Bulls To Visit New Bucks Head

The Bulls have been pencilled in to visit AFC Telford on July 20th.

The Shropshire Star reports the visit this morning, although neither club has officially confirmed the date on their respective websites. The game would come just two days before the already announced trip to Lybrook.

UPDATE: Confirmed, with 7.30pm kick off.

AFC Telford have recently appointed former England international Andy Sinton as their new manager, and currently have ex-Bull Danny Carey-Bertram in their squad.

Grimsby striker John-Louis Akpa Akpro has turned down a new deal with the club as he wants to remain in League football. He scored eight times in sixty games over two years for the Mariners.

Stevenage defender Michael Bostwick has attracted interest from a trio of League One clubs. The former Ebbsfleet man was their player of the year as they won promotion to the League. Rotherham striker Adam Le Fondre has not attracted bids from Leicester and Derby according to his agent, who adds they have an agreement with the Millers over interest from higher graded sides.

Big spending Fleetwood have signed ex-Accrington captain Peter Cavanagh following the expiry of his ban for betting. He was expected to sign for Stanley after the eight month ban expired. Oxford have announced a two year sponsorship deal with a local insurance company to become their main sponsor. Wycombe have confirmed the signing of former Aldershot and Brentford keeper Nikki Bull on a one year deal.
